Aiming for the Top Brothers Take Pride in Academics, Philanthropy, and Intramurals T he active chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Cincinnati has been busy this year. Amongst our many accomplishments, we were recognized as Most Improved Chapter at this year's Greek Excellence Awards. Celebrating Our Members Seven new members were initiated in April and Zeta Psi will hold its first-ever legacy recruitment event this summer. We also offer $2,500 worth of scholarships to incoming summer freshmen. Please send any recruitment recommendations to Recruitment Chairman Tyler Creel '20 at tylercreel21@gmail. com or Dylan Bryan '20 at dylanbryan21@gmail. com. A new membership development program was launched in the spring and included bi-weekly workshops covering topics such as relationships, health and fitness, and resume writing. Twenty brothers are expected to graduate this school year, and have accepted jobs with Amazon, JMP Securities, Red Ventures, Sevan, and Toyota. Studying for Success Zeta Psi's academic performance in the fall was outstanding, with our chapter earning a 3.307 grade point average and ranking third amongst the 22 fraternities on campus. Thirty-six of our brothers made the Dean's List and Brandon Livengood '17, Colin Farrell '18, and Dylan Shoup '19 were each awarded one of our alumni-funded scholarships. This spring, we created a program for brothers whose GPA was below a 2.7, which includes academic resources such as personal tutors, French Hall tutoring, study groups, bi-weekly grade checks, and mandatory study hours. Intramural Basketball Champions Zeta Psi won the spring fraternity championship in basketball, beating Sigma Alpha Epsilon by 16 points. We played Theta Chi in the soccer championship on April 20. $100,000 Philanthropic Fundraising Goal Zeta Psi is making sure to be diligent with charitable commitments this year. Every Wednesday, our members tutor kids in the Inner City Youth Opportunities program. In March, the chapter hosted its annual Hoops for Haiti event and raised $2,750 to help offset travel expenses for 20 Zeta Psi brothers going on a mission trip to Haiti this year. The brothers will spend a week learning about Haitian culture, working on housing and development projects, and helping local children. For Derby Days this fall, we've set an ambitious goal to raise $100,000 for Huntsman Cancer Institute. "We are excited to host new events this year, including a black tie dinner for local professionals, parents, and alumni. There will also be a Fight Night, with boxers representing each of the fraternities on campus," said Derby Days Chairman Nick DiNunzio '19. Chapter Involvement on Campus and Beyond More than 30 Zeta Psi members participated in the installation of Sigma Chi Alpha Chapter on April 29 in Miami, Ohio—the biggest installation in our fraternity's history. Four brothers returned to campus in the spring following study abroad trips in Linz, Austria, and Cork, Ireland. This summer, brothers will study in Japan, South Africa, and Europe. Forty-five brothers attended an executive officer retreat in January to set strategic goals for 2017 and to become more knowledgeable about their positions. In late March, the chapter hosted a drug and alcohol seminar in partnership with Sigma Chi Headquarters, covering the dangers of substance abuse in current culture, drinking responsibly, and recognizing unhealthy or addictive habits. Keeping Connected to Family and Alumni Spring Parents' Weekend featured a banquet at the Phoenix in downtown Cincinnati and an open house. Zeta Psi has also started a monthly parents' newsletter, which will include chapter updates. At our monthly alumni luncheon at the Kenwood Country Club, brothers get to connect with alumni and hear words from a keynote speaker. Homecoming will take place on October 21 and our chapter will coordinate festivities with Theta Phi Alpha sorority. We hope to see many alumni back on campus! We welcome and encourage alumni to visit the Zeta Psi house and meet active members anytime. Thank you for your constant support. In Hoc, Ethan Fernandes '19 Pro Consul efernandes197@gmail.com Parents of Zeta Psi members attend a banquet and celebrate the chapter's accomplishments over the past year.
