Tehama County CattleWomen award scholarships The Tehama County Cat- tlewomen have $8,500 in scholarship to six college students for the 2012- 2013 school year. Two different categories of scholarships were awarded. One type of scholarship went to college students majoring in an agricultural field and the second kind went to students who are not majoring in agriculture, but who come from an agricultur- al family. awarded Thursday, September 13, 2012 – Daily News 1D The scholarships are given to full-time college students who are at least in their sophomore year and are grad- uates of a Tehama County high school. Three awards were given for agricultural majors and three for students that are not agricultural majors, but come from families who are involved in agriculture. The agriculture major scholarships went to Emily Andreini and Jadda Miller,who each received 2,000 and Brooke Hencratt who received $500. The scholarships to the non-agriculture majors were $2,000 to Austin Wagner, $1,500 to Margo Dawley and $500 to Zakry Stroing. Emily Andreini is entering her senior year at Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2012. She graduated from Red Bluff High school and is the daughter of Norman and Cathy Andreini. She is majoring in Animal Science and Agricultural Communications with plans for a career in public relations and marketing or animal Andreini nutrition. Dawley UC Davis in the fall of 2012 and will major in Sustainable Agriculture. She has plans to open restaurants that use local agricultural products and will also work in food policy. She graduated from Red Bluff High School and is the daughter of Judd and Kim Miller. Jadda Miller will attend Hencratt Miller the goal of eventually owning his own business. Brooke Hencratt plans to become a large animal veteri- narian. She will attend Chico State in the fall of 2012 as an Animal Science major. She is from Vina, graduated from Los Molinos High School and is the daughter of Dan and Jody Hencratt. Austin Wagner is from Flournoy and is a graduate of Corning High School. His mother and stepfather are Matt and Tessa Pritchard. He is entering his senior year at UC San Diego as a Political Science major and will spend the upcoming year studying abroad in China. He plans to Stroing become an attorney practic- ing international and agricul- tural law. Margo Dawley is the daughter of Frank and Vicky Dawley. She attends the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York City and plans to become a licensed acupuncturist. She is originally from Red Bluff and Wagner graduated from Red Bluff High School. Zak Stroing is a graduate of Red Bluff High and is the son of David and Cindy Stro- ing. He will attend Chico State in the fall of 2012 where he is majoring in mechatronics engineering. He plans to work in the field of robotics and automation with The students were ranked based on their interview; financial need; understanding of agriculture and the cattle industry, their contribution to agriculture and their grade point average. Vicky Dawley, scholarship committee chairwoman, says that the students will all be outstanding ambassadors of the agricultural industry and the committee is proud that the CattleWomen are able to help them complete their edu- cation. Serving on the Tehama County Cattlewomen Schol- arship Committee with Daw- ley are Sally Cox, Chaney, Anne Owens and Danielle Zane. Beth Funds for the scholarships were earned by the Tehama County CattleWomen at a successful wine tasting, din- ner and auction staged with the Tehama County Cattle- men in January. Viking Volunteers organize donation drive to help fire victims Vista Middle School is learning the value of helping others in Mr. Howell's Lead- ership class. give students an opportunity to improve their school and community by organizing and managing community service projects that the students feel are important. To accomplish this, the students formed the "Vista Volunteers", and decided to organize a donation drive to help the victims of the recent fires in the area. What makes this project great is it is completely stu- dent generated, organized and managed with students volun- teering their time and effort to sort donations of clothes, toys, school supplies and canned foods. All items will be donated to the Red Cross at the end of the drive. "The response from the community has been amaz- ing," says teacher Tim How- ell. "Not only do the kids get to help out but they can see that they can make a positive difference for others."
