Sigma Phi Epsilon Focuses on the Balanced Man Program Oregon Beta Reaches 103 Members A fter early alumni status agreements were extended to several upperclassmen, our manpower had shrunk to 64 men at the start of this school year. However, strong recruitment efforts put forth by the Chapter resulted in a banner year for growing the membership of Oregon Beta, which now stands at an impressive 103 members. We exceeded our recruitment goals, adding 24 new members in the fall quarter and another 15 this spring. We are very excited to see the contributions these new members will make to our Chapter. Notably, this year's Balanced Man scholarship was our most successful to date and planning is already underway for next year's competition and scholarship banquet. We more than doubled last year's number of applicants and are aiming to do even better next year. One important feature of the Balanced Man Scholarship process is the awards banquet we host in the fall. We are seeking a greater alumni presence at this event so we can continue to recruit some of the university's finest men. This year's Balanced Man Scholarship Banquet will be on October 1 at 11 a.m. Over the past two years we have made tremendous progress in our implementation of the Balanced Man Program (BMP). We have developed coordinators for each of the challenges and have successfully implemented the rites of passage into these membership development activities. SigEp Headquarters has recently launched the BMP app, which all our members will now use to track their challenge progress beginning this fall. In February, nine of our chapter leaders attended the Carlson Leadership Academy in Orange County, Calif. This intense, daylong leadership training opportunity was an inspiration to our executive team, as we continue to strive to make Oregon Beta one of the best SigEp chapters in the nation. We were also able to meet with SigEp volunteers and undergraduate executive boards from around the region and create a clearer vision for our Chapter. This summer, we are looking forward to representing Oregon Beta at SigEp's Grand Chapter Conclave in Orlando. This has also been our first year using SigEp National Housing as our property manager, a decision that has brought us several changes for the better. This resulted in the hiring of new chefs and a part-time property manager. Demand to live in the Chapter House is now high and we will be increasing our capacity next year to accommodate our new members. Our intramural teams have continued to perform well. The flag football, basketball, and floor hockey teams all reached the championship games and our softball and soccer teams have finished strong. This is a truly an exciting time for Oregon Beta and we are happy with the direction we are heading. Not all of these changes have been easy, but we are proud of the progress we have made and we are optimistic for our future.
