Tom Thurber '60 had the honor of putting
the first shovel into the ground.
The 30-year time capsule buried
April 22, 2001, was dug up.
UNL's Chancellor Ronnie Green spoke
to the crowd during the event.
A
s you read in the latest campaign mailing,
the Nebraska Chapter construction project
is getting ready to begin. The anticipation of our
undergraduate brothers living in a new, up-to-
date chapter house is creating excitement and
motivation. Our freshmen will live in Smith
Hall and our upperclassmen will live in a block
at the Latitude apartment complex during the
construction. They are already excited to move
into their new home when the project is complete.
The undergraduates and alumni had the
opportunity to discuss the campaign and visit the
current chapter house for the final time during our
groundbreaking ceremony on April 22. It was a
great time for renewing friendships, reliving fond
memories, and discussing the future of Nebraska
FarmHouse. Over the course of the weekend, more
than 200 alumni, undergraduates, parents, and
friends reminisced, took a final tour of the facility,
and enjoyed the camaraderie of our brotherhood.
They paid tribute to 3601 Apple Street with the
understanding that in order for our chapter to
move forward, changes have to be made.
Chancellor Ronnie Green spoke to the group
congratulating FarmHouse on the record
campaign and stated he expected nothing less
than a record from the men of FarmHouse. He
articulated that the University is committed
to the Greek system and invited FarmHouse
members and alumni leadership to participate
in the continued change that needs to happen
in today's university setting. FarmHouse
Executive Director Chad Harris also spoke
of the ideals and history of FarmHouse and
the impact that this new chapter house will
have on hundreds of men in the future. After
experiencing the event and hearing these men
speak, many alumni left the weekend realizing
the importance of this project and were
compelled to make a gift to the campaign.
A chapter house is a symbol of a fraternity. A
well-built facility shows the fraternity is valued
by its members, both past and present. This
value is sensed by the university community and
potential new members, attracting individuals
with a desire to see Nebraska FarmHouse grow
and succeed.
Remember, what we do today will affect our
brothers for generations. The new construction
is vital to the chapter's success and survival, and
it will provide a chapter house of which past,
present, and future FarmHouse men can be proud.
To date, 494 brothers have contributed more than
$3.89 million to the project. While this is an
impressive commitment, we still need support
from every alumnus to ensure that construction
will be completed on time and on budget.
Please make a gift today by completing and
mailing the enclosed pledge form to secure your
involvement in this great initiative. You can
ensure that the FarmHouse legacy remains for
our future brothers at Nebraska.
Fraternally,
Raise the Barn Chairmen
