JUNE 1 Town of Quartzsite invites every- one to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, JUNE 1, 2017, at the Quartzsite Community Center. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." For more information contact the Quartzsite Police Department at 928-927-4644. "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." ~Albert Schweitzer It's that time of year when young people are graduating and celebrat- ing their accomplishments. We all love to celebrate, but are we doing enough of it? Think about it- the kids graduating this month achieved their goals by continu- ally taking steps to move forward. Sometimes small steps, sometimes making large leaps; but still keeping the end-goal in mind- those small steps all have a cumulative effect. And when we celebrate those small steps, we're encouraging ourselves to accomplish more in our lives. Did you know...There's a reason why it feels good when we celebrate success and it's to do with the neu- rohappy chemicals in our brain. Dopamine is released into our brain when we anticipate achieving some- thing or we achieve it – and it feels good, so we want more of it. A large part of success is about having a success mindset; yes, it's how you think about yourself. When we celebrate our successes, we start to see ourselves as someone who is successful rather than someone who's trying to become successful. So celebrate the small wins in life and party up the large ones! Yea, I know, sometimes it's hard because we tend to focus on how we fell short or failed in reaching our goals. It's good to refl ect about what didn't work, but then make adjust- ments for a better future. By celebrating our successes, we reinforce the motivation that will carry us through the next achieve- ment. Enjoy the journey, recognize the little successes in life as well as the large ones. When we're look- ing too far in advance, we miss the treasures happening in the moment. Be sure to take time to smell the roses. Oprah said, "The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." So, pat yourself on the back and cel- ebrate even the small stuff today! Time brings change. As kids, we were lucky to have a penny. With a nickel every other kid would yell, dibs on bites. Our kids got a dollar on Saturday. Now kids get 18 to 25 dollars weekly. Some have no allowance and little too eat. What's wrong with this story?
