UCW: Who are your members and what instruments do they play? BYO:Jon plays the drums, Brandon is our vocalist. Chris and Dynomite play the guitar, and Jamie is our bassist. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? BYO: Jon, Brandon and Royce (our original guitarist) found each other on Myspace with the same musical interest and decided to start writing, and playing music. We all lived in and around Johnston and Wake counties at the time. After a few member changes we picked up three players from Fayetteville (Chris from local band Slamhandle, Jamie from local band Malicious Intent, and Dynomite from Kritic Kill from Texas). We all live and practice in Fayetteville now. With playing lots of local N.C. shows we finally started to get a decent fan base. Still sticking to it, we are playing shows almost every weekend, and traveling out of state to gain new fans. With a self titled EP available now, we are still writing. UCW: How did the band get its name? BYO: Actually, Royce came up with it from playing Halo — it is when you kill your own players. But to all of us it seems that Betray Your Own fits how our socitey can be, and how people betray there own kind for themselves. UCW: How would you define your music? BYO: Heavy! There are so many genres of metal, deathmetal and hardcore,
we just keep it heavy. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? BYO: Pantera, Rose Funeral, Parkway Drive, Whitechapel, As Blood Runs
Black, ABACABB and Unearth UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration
come from? BYO: Yes. horror movies, past relationships, events that affect us in every-
day society. Five influences mixed together equals chaos UCW: If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be? BYO: Brutal and intense. UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? BYO: We just got a van and our goal is to tour and play as many shows as possible and write great songs. UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now? BYO: Five years — touring the US with at least one or two full lengths out! 10 years — touring the world with a major record deal and three or more great albums. UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in
the near future? BYO: We play a Fayetteville show at least once or twice a month. We’ve played at Jesters and The Rock Shop, but now mostly we play at The Rock Shop
