Weir smiled expressively through the shoot as she changed from several of her own tops and posed graciously around her dining room, living room, brick oven, and kitchen. She is just as expressive with her sparkling blue eyes as she is with her hands, which had put together the beautiful flower arrangements for a dinner party a few days earlier. Her favorite spot seemed to be with her cookbooks at her kitchen counter. Relationships writer Lisa Brookes Kift's sage advice for mothers and tweens resonated deeply, as my daughter, Grace, pictured here with me, will soon be 12. The dynamics of mothers and daughters need special love and nurturing to grow through what can be trying years. Our instructions for "makeunders" is very timely as Grace is discovering her love of fashion and glamour. I am inspired by the quote Grace picked for her yearbook this year, "A smile is the best make-up a girl can wear." Great advice that I hope she con- tinues to live by. Shooting the cover at celebrity chef Joanne Weir's home was uplifting; sur- rounded by her warm and sunny fur- nishings, dishes, flowers and art. Not to mention that she is an absolute beauty. It was fascinating to read that inspira- tion, "a fly in a glass," can come from anywhere and can lead to travels, cookbooks, and tequila. I can't wait to try out some of her recipes that she was so kind to share. Limoncello, women helping each other reach new heights, and growing organic gardens are among the other stories that dish out worthwhile advice and inspiration.
