S P R I N G 2 0 1 7 | NORTH BAY WOMAN 41 By Pamela Fox at Marin Mommies W hile a leisurely Sun- day brunch is a Moth- er's Day tradition for many, if your family is of the more adven- turous type why not check out some of these fun alternatives in Marin and the North Bay? We've assembled five of our favorite fun alternative outings for the whole family on Mother's Day, which takes place this year on Sunday, May 14. If you're looking for something to do the Saturday before, take the kids out to McNears Beach Park in San Rafael, where they can join Marin Parks rangers in creating a cool piece of art to give to mom on Mother's Day! Admission is free; learn more at marinparks.org. Martin Griffin Preserve Audubon Canyon Ranch has offered its Mother's Day BBQ for over 50 years! It takes place at Martin Griffin Preserve near Stinson Beach on Mother's Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu includes barbecued chicken or vegetarian quiche, green salad, home- style beans, local breads, coffee and tea, and ice cream. Wine, beer, and soft drinks are available, too. You can explore this amazing area, with its spring wildflowers, hiking trails, and egret nesting site, on a guided nature hike, too! Cost: $28 per adult and $12 per child under 12. Register in advance at marinaudubon.org/events- mothers-day-picnic-tickets.php Have a picnic at the Cheese Factory The Marin French Cheese Com- pany, AKA the Cheese Factory, is a wonderful spot for a family picnic. Located on Point Reyes–Petaluma Road between Novato and Nicasio, the Cheese Factory is a great spot where the kids can run and play on the expansive lawn and you can relax on your picnic blan- ket in a nice shady spot. Bring your own picnic or buy food at their cheese store and deli, which stocks sandwiches, ice cream, a mul- titude of different cheeses of course, coffee, wine, beer, and soft drinks. This is really one of our favorite spots to spend a relaxing spring afternoon. Hike to a Pancake Breakfast on Mt. Tam Enjoy pancakes, sausage, hot coffee, amazing views, and live music at Mt. Tam's venera- ble West Point Inn from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is only $10 for adults and $5 for children; orange juice and cantaloupe MOM con't on page 47 > HAPPY making Memories BBQ at Audubon Canyon Ranch and explore the area! – Photo provided by Marin Mommies Marin French Cheese Factory. – Photo provided by Marin Mommies – Photo provided by West Point Inn Five fun adventures for families on Mother's Day!
