Colorado Alpha Chapter House Prepares for a Summer Kitchen Remodel T he Pi Beta Phi Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC) is pleased to share the latest information about our summer plans for our beloved Colorado Alpha Chapter house. While the collegiate members are away for the summer, it is the ideal time to tackle large-scale projects, and this summer is no different. The kitchen and dining room are often the center of the sisterhood. They are where sisters gather to share meals, take study breaks and have late-night conversations. With that in mind, we will be undertaking a $300,000 full commercial kitchen overhaul beginning in June. We will update all areas, including equipment, such as: a combi gas, double-decker convection oven; a moving warming cabinet; three heavy-duty open burner ranges; a worktop freezer/ refrigerator; worktop tables; dish table storing shelves; countertop refrigerator; and a dishwasher. In addition to the equipment updates, we will also reconfigure the layout to ensure the kitchen is fully functional in all aspects. This new layout will set our chef up for success and ensure efficiency, member safety and, of course, efficient food preparation. This will include updates to the cabinetry, shelving, flooring, electrical and walls (as needed), vinyl tiles on the ceiling and lighting fixtures. We will also be making updates to the dry food storage in the basement, which holds items like canned goods and pasta. As you can see, the updates are similar to a home kitchen remodel, albeit on a much larger scale. We look forward to sharing photos of the kitchen remodel with you in the fall issue of Angel Update! Cherry '65 started her college experience at a small all-women's college, and when she transferred to the University of Colorado, Boulder, before the beginning of her junior year, she wasn't interested in joining a sorority. Camile Bishop, a friend and neighbor, convinced her that before she rejected fraternity and sorority life altogether she should go through recruitment and see what the organizations were really about. "Then during recruitment, I was just dazzled by Pi Phi, and they took me, which was so thrilling," she said. While K. K. had made some nice friendships at her first school, they weren't like the friendships she developed at 890 11th Street. K. K. lived in the chapter house for two years. She loved the elegance of dressing for dinner with candlelight, linens, and the lifelong friendships she made. SPRING 2017 Chloe Brittingham '15 captured the chapter house on a beautiful snowy day.
