Just as April showers give way to May flowers, new culinary programming springs up this week on basic cable, as the year's fourth month segues to the fifth. First and foremost on that list is "Ayesha's Home Kitchen," premiering Sunday, April 30, on Food Network. The six-episode, half-hour series features Curry – cookbook author, social media maven, mother of two and wife of NBA superstar Stephen Curry – showcasing quick and tasty recipes that she prepares with the help of family and friends. In the opener, it's taco night at the Curry house, so Ayesha makes pulled chicken tacos from the meat of a rotisserie chicken, cilantro lime rice, horchata brownies and smoky pineapple margarita. Ideas to consider for Cinco de Mayo, which is Friday. The next night on Food is the Season 2 opener of "Kids Barbecue Championship," which finds hosts Eddie Jackson and Damaris Phillips presiding as young grillers vie in a series of competitions for a $10,000 grand prize. Tuesday, May 2, it's the return of Cooking Channel's "Big Bad BBQ Brawl," in which Brooklyn-reared pitmaster Shannon Ambrosio hits the road to Albuquerque to challenge a favorite local restaurant to a "sandwich slam." You can be certain that no matter who wins, the outcome will be delicious – and very hot. Speaking of eating and traveling, Josh Denny of Food's "Ginormous Food" does plenty of it, and in the Friday, May 5, episode, he touches down in Columbia, S.C., to sample a 14-inch gravy-laden biscuit loaded with meat and eggs, a 12-pound hash-brown casserole and "the Cinnamonster," a 22-inch cinnamon roll. No word yet on how many antacids were consumed in the making of this production. Also walking on the culinary wild side is Noah Cappe of Cooking's "Carnival Eats," who in the Thursday, May 4, episode stops at Pennsylvania's Big Butler Fair to chow down on a Greek pizza, a crabby patty burger and a Fluffernutter elephant ear pastry. Decadent, yes, but also delicious. If your tastes run to the more refined, there is the Sunday episode of Food's "Giada in Italy," which takes Giada De Laurentiis to the fashionable city of Florence to host a cocktail party on a terrace near the famed Duomo cathedral, with a menu that includes crab arancini, avocado white bean dip and grappa poached pears with speck. Delicioso. Over on Travel Channel, "Food Paradise" heads to cities across the country to highlight tall orders – literally meals that are stacked high – on Sunday; Jack Maxwell and "Booze Traveler: Best Bars" tours more noteworthy watering holes across the U.S. on Monday; and Andrew Zimmern and "Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations" checks out the offbeat culinary offerings in New York City and Berlin on Tuesday.
