He was a member and served as president of ASHRAE, Terpischorean Dance Club, Fort Worth Rotary Club South, and the Longhorn Club. He was proud to be a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Beta Theta Pi, Trinity Episcopal Church, Bible Study Fellowship, the Steeplechase Club, and Colonial Country Club. Joe enjoyed raising citrus in the Rio Grande Valley, flying his own airplane, and loving on his various miniature long- haired daschunds. BETA CHOSEN AS UT FRATERNITY OF THE YEAR Beta Omicron Nears 100-Member Threshold I hope you all are doing well. I enjoyed getting to see many of you in January for the alumni reception and TBSAF meeting here in Austin. I know the brothers enjoyed spending time with the alumni of Beta Omicron and the General Fraternity staff and volunteers as well. I am excited to share our most exciting news: at the Dean of Students office awards ceremony Beta Omicron took home Outstanding Fraternity Chapter of the Year! Pretty impressive, considering this was the first time we were eligible for the award. Additionally, three members were recognized by Dean of Students with individual awards. GAMMA CLASS INDUCTION On Friday, February 3, we inducted 13 outstanding young men to the Beta Omicron Chapter, bringing our total active number to 93. Our recruitment team aimed high, and had a great deal of prospects to pick from. While they were ecstatic at the thought of crossing the 100-member threshold, they held firm to the type of person and qualities we require for someone to be a member of Beta Theta Pi, and at the end of it all, only welcomed those that fit these criteria. Students at the University of Texas know, to borrow from the words of Chapter President Jacob Villarreal '18, "Beta is back and it is here to stay." Students want to learn about us, fraternities want to compete with us, and many want to join us. Our team worked extremely diligently to ensure we only took those who met our highest standards. Vice President of Recruitment Ryan Stewart '16 and his team are already preparing for fall recruitment season. They have a fire burning and I don't believe they will stop until they have gone far beyond our expectations. All we need to do is give them our support and confidence that they will continue making great decisions on who will be worthy to represent our name. TEXAS COWBOYS AND SILVER SPURS We have two members currently going out for Texas Cowboys: Vice President of Programming Jack Trueblood '19 and Chairman of Parent Relations Jordan Youngblood '19. These two hope to fire the cannon more times than our ears can bear this upcoming season. We also have two members going out for Silver Spurs, hoping to follow in the footsteps of our first Silver Spur, Blaine Peters '16. Tony Garcia '16 and Austin Greenawalt '19 are looking to be two of Bevo XV's caretakers for what will surely be a winning season for the Texas Longhorns this fall. We hope you will support our brothers in their journey and acceptance into these two prestigious organizations. INTRAMURALS To say we are about to take the field by storm would be an understatement; it would be more like a hurricane. Hurricane Beta Theta Pi is headed straight for the intramural fields and courts, and I hope until the end of the semester we continue bringing championships home. We are going to pitch, hit, shoot, dive, throw, dig, spike, and catch our way to victory this spring, and we have a great many athletes ready to showcase their talent. Intramurals are an awesome way for us to meet new people, from recruits, to sororities and spirit groups, to members of other fraternities, for some friendly competition. Most importantly though, these sports give us an opportunity to bond with our brothers and have something to look forward to each week. ROUND UP Beta Theta Pi is teaming up with Beta Upsilon Chi, a Christian fraternity on campus, to host what will be our first Round Up event since rechartering. We will have a crawfish boil in West Campus and enjoy live music entertainment. The Chapter is beyond excited at the thought of getting to participate in and host our first Round Up event. We are humbly proud of the fact that we have grown so rapidly and are able to have opportunities like these. UNTIL NEXT TIME As always, the active members and I are truly thankful for our alumni spending time with us, for the support and confidence you give us as we continue to strive to make our Chapter great and become the new standard by which fraternities should be guided. We will always be thankful for the effort and appreciation given by those who may only know how great this Fraternity truly is through the stories we tell.
