Cumberland County Fair Brings Fun, Entertainment by ERIN CRIDER more to do than ever before. For only a $10 admission fee, the fair offers unlimited access to all of the carnival rides and entertainment. In addition to the traditional fair foods and rides, the Cumberland County Fair has numerous forms of entertainment. The Cumberland County Fair is here once again, and this year there is Each year the fair is a new and different event. There is no formula for creating such a large and successful event. Hubert Bullard, the fair manager explains the huge challenge of organizing this event. be reorganized every year from scratch. It involves hundreds of volunteers, lots of public and nonprofit organizations and lots of help from media folks," said Bullard. "We also have lots of contests. But we try to make it an event where people leave having had fun, with a warm fuzzy feeling, having seen the best local, regional and national talent available." "This is an event that has to The Cumberland County Fair offers fun, entertain- ment and food. We also have a brand new Spectacular Hansen's Circus, which is a great outdoor circus." At its heart, the fair is about family and fun. "This is the old country fair in a very clean environment. It is a fair that is designed for young families … we have lots of carnival rides, lots of special attractions, lots of entertainment and a huge petting zoo," continued Bullard. "The fair focuses on youth, agriculture, livestock and education. It is designed to showcase the best of Cumberland County and the Cape Fear Region." Each day at the fair is also tagged with a specific theme that includes deals with admission and often includes special events. Bullard gave the closing day deal as an example. "This year the fair will close on Sunday Sept. 16, which is tagged as family day at the fair, where anyone with a church bulletin gets into the fair for half price for the first hour. Of course, on that day we are going to have a huge Contemporary Christian music contest." It is in part because of this tremendous challenge that the fair is able to evolve as it does into an increasingly better event. This allows organizers the opportunity to add more and more events and react to the previous year's results. Bullard says, "There are a lot of new things at the fair this year. The fair has to be reinvented each year. Of course we have things from the past, but there are so many new things we have. We have more than 40 carnival rides. We have the largest portable roller coaster in the world. This year's fair, the first weekend we will feature the Thunder Nationals Monster Truck Show, Serving Fayetteville and Sanford for over 25 years….
