memoRy and ouR mystic sHRine Raymond mcdowell iii '72 passed away on September 30, 2016. Ray was born on July 10, 1950, in Pennsboro, Mo., to Ray and Rosaline McDowell. At the age of 29, he met Pam Blair, whom he married in 1979. The couple was devoted to their faith and family, having raised three children in their 37 years together and becoming lifetime members of Pennsboro Christian Church. Ray valued hard work and had a fulfilling career as a market reporter for the state of Missouri and at the Joplin Regional Stockyards. He eventually established his own grow yard at McDowell Farms. Ray is survived by his wife, children, and four grandchildren. alumni uPdate charles claiborn '73 is a professor in the counseling and counseling psychology programs at Arizona State University. He has been on the faculty there since 1991, having previously taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Iowa. Charles received a doctorate degree from the University of Missouri, as well as a master's from The Ohio State University. His primary research interests are psychotherapy processes, especially interpretation and other interventions that change client perspectives and meanings. He has published over 60 research and theoretical articles in professional journals, many book chapters, a book on the process of psychotherapy, and has been the recipient of several awards. E-mail: claiborn@asu.edu. dr. Karl Wirtz '74 and his wife, Barbara, have been residents of Sun City Grand in Surprise, Ariz., since 2002. He is a graduate of Misch International Implant Institute, Pankey Institute, and Dawson Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla. Karl is also a trained dental lab technician and does most of his own lab work in the office to provide quality and personalized care for his patients. He recently renovated his office to include a training facility where he welcomes other dental professionals to learn about removable prosthodontics and other areas of dentistry. He is a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and has memberships in the Christian Dental Society, American College of Oral Implantology, and the Comprehensive Care Continuum Study Club. Karl enjoys golfing, reading, baseball, and watching his favorite team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. coNgrAtulAtioNS, AlumNi Z eta Phi congratulates david "dave" spence '80 on being added to the chapter's Wall of Fame in recognition of his numerous business and public achievements, as well as his contributions to the welfare and advancement of the fraternity. We also congratulate shawn askinosie '83 and William "bert" bates '49, who were awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Missouri, adding to a long list of Zeta Phis who have been recipients of this honor.
