3 DTD The CordelT ALuMnI uPDATe CHapter eternal Hamilton Miller '48 entered Chapter Eternal on July 2, 2016, as a resident of Waco, Texas. His son, Jimmy, says, "All of us kids knew how much our dad enjoyed Cornell and being a member of Delta Tau Delta." John Sundburg '50 entered Chapter Eternal on May 2, 2016, as a resident of Priest River, Idaho. He was the lab manager for American Optical and later Coburn Optical. He was an avid short story writer and frequently published in local papers. His wife of 55 years, Doris, passed away in 2005. He moved to Idaho after connecting with a high school classmate, Marjorie Vannatter, in 2008. John loved Idaho's mountains, trees, and slower pace of life. richard penner '68 entered Chapter Eternal on December 11, 2016, as a resident of New Paltz, N.Y., after a battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare degenerative neurological disease. Richard was a former Beta Omicron chapter advisor and faculty academic advisor. aluMni newS Steven J. Getman '86 was reappointed as town attorney for Ovid, N.Y., in January 2017. In his role, he is the legal adviser to the town board, town officers, and employees, along with prosecuting and defending civil actions for or against the town. Steven also serves as the Schuyler County Attorney, where he represents the county's legislature and public officers. E-mail: sjg36@cornell.edu aaron S. Overton Jr. '92 of Derry, N.H., had a great visit with his Delt roommate, Bernie Sochia '92, and his family last summer. E-mail: johnoverton2@ comcast.net andrew "andy" l. Howlett '07 and his wife, Jessica, welcomed their daughter, Anne Elliot Howlett, into the world on May 7, 2016, and will soon celebrate her first birthday. E-mail: andrewlhowlett@gmail.com T he Beta Omicron Chapter has continued to improve its recruitment efforts, initiating 13 men into the fraternity this semester, the largest class in three years. These new members, mostly freshmen, are excited to offer their talents to make our chapter a fun, welcoming place for all on Cornell's campus. With a small senior class graduating, we hope to continue our positive trends due to steady, consistent leadership from our sophomore and junior classes. StrOnG new MeMBer eDuCatiOn Our new member education has been outstanding this semester, instilling our positive fraternity values in our new members. This led to the strongest performance on the national exam in all the years that Chapter Advisor Jack thompson '73 has administered the test. Therefore, I would like to personally commend New Member Educator rohith Vudatha '17 for his excellent work at making sure our new members know what it truly means to be a Delt. new pHilantHrOpiC traDitiOn Greek organizations often host an annual philanthropic event to help raise money for their respective causes. Starting this spring, we will host the first Dunk-a-Delt for JDRF. Spearheaded by Philanthropy Chairman alex Chong '19 and Vice President ian Melvin '18, we will position brothers in a dunk tank on Ho Plaza. Charging $1 per throw, we hope this event will attract positive attention to our chapter and raise money for a great cause. StrOnG CaMpuS preSenCe, StrOnG reCruitMent Members participate in a wide range of activities on campus. Some notable organizations Delts boast include: Cornell University Asia Business Society, Cornell Concert Commission, Cornell Media Guild, and Cornell Fencing Team. Recruitment Chairman Matthew Habel '18 has emphasized using our campus presence to facilitate recruitment, which has contributed to our successful efforts in recent years. We hope a continued effort to leverage our strong campus networks shall continue these positive trends. tHank YOu, aluMni, fOr YOur SuppOrt Lastly, we would like to thank you all for your never-ending support, your dedication to the values of Delta Tau Delta, and your commitment to our chapter.
