Generally A PUBLICATION FOR ALUMNI OF ALABAMA ALPHA t SIGMA PHI EPSILON t SPRING 2017 SPEaking Inside: Alumni Volunteer Opportunities t 2 Alumnus Spotlight t 2 Chapter Report t 3 W ow, how time flies! It seems like yesterday I graduated from Auburn, but, unfortunately, that was 30 years ago. Today I find myself the new alumni board president of Alabama Alpha. After more than 10 years, Brian Huff '00 (affectionately known as "Chief" by all) has stepped down as president to follow his career, which has taken him away from Auburn. I would like to thank Brian for all of his hard work and leadership over the years. The young men of SigEp were blessed to have him as a president, mentor, friend, and companion. While he is no longer fulfilling the role of president, he will continue assisting the AVC with his guidance. Thanks again, Chief! A little about myself: I was a spring pledge in 1985 along with David Vaughn '87, Jeff Prince '87, Ronnie Jones '89, Andrew Kennedy '88, and Erick Smith '88. We were a small class, but we dug a heart-shaped pool for Waikiki and bonded a great friendship. As life typically does, we lost contact after graduation. It was not until 2015 that I got back involved with the fraternity and rekindled some of the old friendships with my brothers from Alabama Alpha. I regret it has taken me so long to renew these friendships and MESSAGE FROM NEW AVC PRESIDENT relive the past. The last two years have been a blast with these "old" guys. From a Lake Martin weekend, our '80s reunion, and the Grove at Ole Miss, we have enjoyed talking about old times. It is never too late to reconnect, and I urge you to do the same. I also urge you to get involved with the alumni board. We could use your help in mentoring these young men and keeping our traditions alive. So if you have a couple hours a month and would like to volunteer, please contact me. In our last newsletter, we discussed renovations to the house. It was long coming and direly needed, but we have finally completed the first stage. The dining hall, Doc room, and Chapter room look awesome and have been a big hit with the membership. I hope the next time you are in Auburn, you stop by and take a look. SigEp National Housing has been a great help providing the financing to renovate. With great appreciation, I would like to recognize the following brothers who have graciously donated money and their time: Keith Bernstein '88, Mike Howley '85, Andy Huggins '87, Andy Kinard '87, Jim Kirkpatrick '87, Robert Maund '87, Terry McCarthy '90, Don McKenna '92, Bill McMahon '88, Kevin Moore '90, Jeff Mullins '84, Barry Thomason '84, Jon Uhlir '85, Ty White '89, Brooks Wooten '89, and a brother who wishes to remain anonymous. Thank you, again, to these brothers! If anyone would like to help or has questions, don't hesitate to contact me. HFF, Barry R. Holt, CPA, Esq. '87 barry@holtmcduffeeramsey.com (334) 301-0310
