AlwAys Anchored PAge 4 Business Owner Colleen Durbin Mitchell '78 Attributes Success to DG Experience "I f while studying at The Ohio State University, my amazing Epsilon DG sisters had predicted I would be running my own business today, I would have replied, 'No way!' What I might have agreed with is someday, somehow, I would love serving others for a living," says Colleen Durbin Mitchell '78. That's precisely what VENTURE3Philanthropy LLC is all about! Now in its seventh year, this global philanthropy advising practice empowers generous multi-generational families of means, large foundations, and grant makers, as well as social enterprises, to organize their giving to their favorite charities in a more strategic, playful way—organized for external impact within their communities, through support to specific social issues and organizational partners; but also internal impact, strengthening family learning and legacy, and deepening one's personal sense of meaning and purpose. "I literally jump out of bed each morning and can't wait to get going and serve my clients," Colleen says. The company is headquartered today in the Grand Rapids, Michigan, area, but serves donors around the globe. Client engagement ranges from co-designing a charitable giving strategy to helping them implement the plan; complete with developing all the nuts and bolts required to place into action all the details to ensure the giving and grant making fulfills donor intentions and desired outcomes. Today more than ever before, families are busy planning for wealth transfer, teaching their children and grandchildren their giving vision and values so they are well prepared to steward their giving legacy for generations to come. Large foundations are committed to achieving impact and a sustainable difference due to their generosity. And enterprises, global multi-nationals and closely held, private enterprises, are eager to align their giving to support social issues that will help their companies profitably grow and employees prosper. Colleen says, "Nothing brings me more professional satisfaction than to witness client joy in their giving! Having my own business permits me to focus my energies exclusively on serving and delighting my clients, helping them achieve their giving vision." "My four-year undergraduate experience with my Epsilon sisters, particularly the love, guidance, and support of upper-class sisters like Susie Walton Liebert '77, Laura Metzger '77, and my Epsilon auntie, Kathy Osterlein McCaffrey '71, gave me early on the confidence to step into the future with care and conviction and pursue my dreams of one day serving others who love philanthropy as much as I do." "Forever in the bonds; I am so deeply grateful!" SETTING THE STANDARD FOR EPSILON CHAPTER M y name is Nyomi Thompson and I am proud to be the president of Delta Gamma at Ohio State. My vision for the year is to boost morale, increase participation and attendance at anchored events, and improve organization and communication throughout the chapter. I believe we can implement these goals through a variety of ways, including sisterhood events. We were privileged to welcome Ailis Garcia, speaker and founder of The Strong Movement. She led our retreat and promoted body positivity, self-confidence, and the benefits of exercise. Additionally, we had a Candle Lab sisterhood and will soon have Fusian come to the house to help us prepare sushi rolls. Lots of exciting times are upon Epsilon Chapter and I cannot wait to see where it goes! In the Bonds, Nyomi Thompson '15 Chapter President nyomi.thompson@yahoo.com "I am very grateful I was chosen for the position of house manager. I believe the position will allow me to grow as both a leader and communicator. I love knowing I can go into any of the rooms in the house and will see a best friend." – House Manager Jamie Warrack '16 On February 25, Epsilon Chapter welcomed Ailis Garcia, speaker and founder of The Strong Movement. Our retreat focused on messages of body positivity, self-confidence, and exercise! Ailis offered a workout class prior to the retreat. Anchor Splash ® was a success! We doubled the amount of money raised last year and had a great turnout. The games included DG on a Dolphin, relay race, and synchronized swimming. Shoutout to the men of Pike who won! "Do Good" to Maddie Clark '16 for planning the whole event.
