Sigma Phi EPSilon FratErnity FloridA AlphA ChApter p.o. Box 12182 gAinesville, Fl 32604-0182 Address Service Requested SigEp Gator Heart E very two years, Sigma Phi Epsilon hosts the largest national gathering of its members across the nation, the Grand Chapter Conclave. This year, the Grand Chapter Conclave will be held in our backyard at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, from August 2-6, and we would love to see a strong showing of Florida Alpha brothers attend this amazing event. Grand Conclave is a multi-faceted event that accomplishes several purposes. First, and most importantly, it celebrates brotherhood among alumni and undergraduate brothers. Secondly, it conducts the business of the Fraternity by determining how the Fraternity will operate by considering new legislation and changes to the SigEp bylaws. Attendees are also able to participate in personal and professional development activities. Finally, Grand Conclave is a time when we can gather to honor those who have helped to make the Fraternity great by bestowing its most important undergraduate and alumni awards. This is a truly special event, and we encourage all alumni to attend. There are both full packages and weekend packages available, so you can attend all or just part of the events. In order to help as many alumni take advantage of the proximity of the Grand Conclave location, we have secured a discount code for Florida Alpha alumni. Right now there is a 10% discount on registration costs available until May 1, with the code "Gators." In addition to the 10% savings available with the Florida Alpha code, there are additional savings associated with early registration. An alumnus registration (full package) will cost $486 now thru May 1, compared to $655 with on-site registration. There is also a weekend only registration package available. For more information on registration, visit http://sigep.org/the-sigep-experience/events/ grand-chapter-conclave, or e-mail events@ sigep.net for further registration options. Grand Conclave is not just an event for undergraduates, alumni advisors, and those actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the Fraternity and undergraduate chapters. It's a time for our membership to come together and renew the bonds of brotherhood. We hope to see you there! JOIN US IN ORLANDO! Come to the 2017 SigEp Grand Conclave to See the Power of Brotherhood Alumni Update CHAPTER ETERNAL William G. "Bill" Cross, Carroll College '49, longtime friend of Florida Alpha, entered Chapter Eternal on January 22. Following his military service, he earned his master's degree at North Carolina State University. In 1960, he arrived at the University of Florida to serve as the assistant dean of men. A few years later, he became the director of student activities and associate director of the J. Wayne Reitz Student Union until he retired in 1988. During his tenure at UF, Bill became close friends with many Florida Alpha brothers and, in 1985, Bill was awarded the Order of the Golden Heart for his many years of service to SigEp. Bill was an avid tennis player. He learned to play tennis by auditing Coach M.B. Chafin's tennis classes and continued playing into his late 80s. Bill volunteered tirelessly on behalf of Gator tennis throughout the tenure of six head tennis coaches. In May 2016, he was recognized for a Lifetime of Service to Gator tennis. The motto that best describes Bill's unique combination of service to the University of Florida, Gator Tennis, Sigma Phi Epsilon, family, friends, and our country is the United States Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis—Always Faithful. Bill is survived by his daughter, Lisa Cross; his son, Jeff Cross (Gladys); grandchildren, Stephanie and Zachary; ex-wife, Barbara Chaffin (Jack); and his brothers, Robert T. Cross (Renee) and Richard L. Cross. He will also be dearly missed by his loving companion of 36 years, Karolyn H. Watson, and his extended family, Kathy and Whitney Burnett and their two children, and Karen and Matt Minno and their three children. Loyd Lyle '50 entered Chapter Eternal on March 26, in Jacksonville. He was 88. Loyd was born in Tampa on August 27, 1928.
