Phi Kappa Psi P (Continued on page 4) Actives RAise the stAkes with Big goAls foR AcAdemics, PhilAnthRoPy, And RecRuitment s our Chapter approaches the halfway point of the spring semester, I'd like to offer a glimpse into the past few months and preview some of the projects and goals that we are implementing over the course of the rest of the year. The Ohio Delta Chapter remains, in many measures, the premier Fraternity at Ohio State and has seen several improvements in academics, recruitment, brotherhood development programs, philanthropy, and new member education. We are truly excited about the direction the Chapter is heading and we can't wait to report more in the fall. Brothers Secure Competitive GPA Academically, Phi Psi holds a 3.23 cumulative GPA, which is right on par with the Greek average of 3.22 and better than the university cumulative GPA of 3.18. Out of the fraternities at Ohio State with more than 65 men, Phi Psi has the fifth-highest cumulative GPA. This semester, we have created a Chapter-wide database of the classes that brothers have previously taken, so at the beginning of each semester that database can be referenced and guys can receive advice and help from older brothers who have already taken a class. Also, we are creating a mentorship program where active members will work as advisers to smaller groups of pledges in their academic field of study. I'm incredibly proud of the work our guys have put in to achieve this level of performance and believe that the programs we are instituting under Scholarship Chairman David Sorger '18 will allow us to report an improvement in the fall. Members Set Goals for Continued Philanthropic Success Philanthropically, we are coming off of an extremely successful year. Last year, we raised over $10,000 and donated over 1,000 hours of community service. Signature events such as the Phi Psi Open, a tennis tournament regularly drawing hundreds of attendees, and the spring game, a football game between ours and Sigma Chi's spring pledge classes, will be repeated this year and are highly anticipated. Our efforts benefit organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus and the ALS Association, as well as the causes of other sororities and fraternities at Ohio State through the support of their events and fundraisers. Under the leadership of Philanthropy Chairman Jackson Reid '19, I am confident that last year's success will be repeated throughout 2017. Recruiting Future Leaders Recruitment has also been a major success as we added 10 brothers in the fall and have 36 pledges in the new member education process this semester. Each semester, we have over 200 men participate in our recruitment process and it is fantastic that the quality of the Chapter that has been built over the years allows us to bring in only the very best men on campus. Improving the Phi Psi Experience Looking forward to the rest of this semester, we are working on several projects to improve the facilities and the brotherhood experience. To encourage brothers to be healthy and active, we are hoping to create a gym in the Honors Lodge basement. To ensure our brothers are constantly Phi Kappa Psi Still Important to WWII Veteran Pat Doyle '43 More Than 70 Years Later atrick W. Doyle '43 stands today not only as Ohio Delta's senior board member, but also as one of its few remaining World War II veterans. Vital at age 93, Pat is actively participating in alumni events and living life to the fullest. He was a leader and major contributor in the campaign to fund the recently completed renovation of our historic Fraternity House and he also was the sole benefactor for development of the Chapter's website. Back in 1963, Pat was part of the Chapter House expansion project and he has been involved in Ohio Delta Corporation programs through the intervening years. Pat came to Columbus in 1937 when his auto dealer father moved from Flint, Michigan. Upon high school graduation in 1942, Pat enrolled at OSU and pledged Phi Kappa Psi. In December of that year, he enlisted in the Navy Air Force and returned to be initiated in 1943 while home on leave from pre-flight training. He served in the air crew of dive bombers, then became an instructor assigned to a number of different bases during the war. Among those was the Jacksonville, Florida, Naval Air Station, where Pat reunited with George "Rocky" Frost '46, who was also serving there. Pat was discharged in 1946 and returned to the OSU College of Commerce and to the Ohio Delta Chapter, where he held positions as recruitment chairman and social chairman while also playing on the Chapter's football and basketball teams. He received his degree in business administration in 1948 and went to work in the family Chrysler agency and into the new manufactured housing field. Pat then entered the financial world as a mortgage broker with the Galbreath Companies. His career culminated as a specialist in commercial real estate lending with National City Bank. His expertise has been valuable in Fraternity financial matters. Pat's wife, Carol, an OSU Kappa Alpha Theta, passed away in 2014. They were longtime residents of Upper Arlington, where they raised their blended family of eight children, who have produced 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pat is proud to claim 11 of the family as fraternity and sorority members, including a Phi Psi at University of Indiana. Pat and Carol participated in several Ohio Delta alumni retreats at Cabo San Lucas, including the one when plans were laid for the house renovation project. Pat now lives at First Community Village retirement facility in Upper Arlington, along with fellow residents Bob Hamilton '49, Dave Timmons '49, and Phil Hobbs '66, all former Ohio Delta board members. Pat continues to meet with brothers at the weekly alumni luncheons and other Phi Psi events. With characteristic enthusiasm, Pat expresses his pride and confidence in the current active Chapter, as well as the capable leadership of today's Ohio Delta Company. He greatly exemplifies loyalty and a lifetime commitment to Phi Kappa Psi. A
