Page 3 Sigma Phi Epsilon A cademic achievement continues to be a strong ethic within the chapter. For the fall semester, there were 49 members out of 130 that earned a GPA of 3.5 or better, or had an overall GPA of 3.5. This is almost 38% of the membership. Three of the members had a perfect 4.0! So, it is no surprise that the chapter stands at the top of the IFC academic pyramid. Your Cal Delta AVC helped the chapter celebrate by hosting the third GPA Reward Steak Dinner on March 1. AVC members Skip Dahlkamp '63, Troy Hanson '02, and Bob Gibbs '63 prepared the steaks, baked potatoes, and Gibbs famous mushrooms. Olive Garden provided the salads. SDSU instructor and SigEp faculty fellow Christine Probett prepared and helped to present special award certificates. Our GPA Reward Dinner really isn't that newsworthy anymore, as we have done it three semesters in a row now. However, our special guests made it newsworthy. Joining the scholars and AVC members were two representatives of SDSU. We were honored to host SDSU Dean of Students Randy Timm and SDSU Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life Matthew Garcia. SDSU values the contributions of the Greek community and we appreciate the support. The day after the dinner, Matt offered the following comments, "I just wanted to thank you again for providing me the opportunity to attend your academic success dinner and celebrate with your chapter members. Each member that I met was outstanding and provided a great impression of what it means to be a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. It was also wonderful to see your advisors take on an active role in engaging and celebrating the success of your members. Keep up the amazing work and let me know if I can assist you with anything." Cal Delta Loses Renaissance Brother F loyd Sandell was initiated as a Cal Delta Renaissance Brother in 2010 at the age of 92. He passed away on March 5, 2017, just four months short of his 100th birthday. Floyd and his wife, Ann, helped with the house for years after their only son, Bruce, was tragically killed while traveling with SigEp brothers in Italy in the summer of 1962. Floyd often said that being initiated as a SigEp was a real high moment in his life.
