T h e EACON spring 2017 B A L P H A T A U O M E G A • D E L T A K A P P A C H A P T E R Keeping Brotherhood Strong Through Alumni Groups A s president of the Housing Corporation, I get questions from alumni, active members, or parents about the Delta Kappa Chapter and its operations. Nearly every time, I refer those questions to the alumni group that has the closest ties with the chapter: the Board of Trustees. Through these experiences, I have learned that many of our Delta Kappa alumni are not aware of the "tripartite" alumni governance of local ATW chapters. Here is a brief rundown on our alumni organizations: ATW-Delta Kappa Housing Corporation The Housing Corporation is most familiar to alumni, as it has been around for many years and was in fact the only alumni group during the undergraduate years of many Delta Kappas. The Housing Corporation is a nonprofit corporation that owns, maintains, and manages the chapter house and property. The president of the HC is me, Mike Carter '76. The other current members are John McCaleb '70, Randy Hooper '76, Greg Dukes '77, Scott Coulson '82, Todd McKinnis '86, and Chad McDougall '89. Board of Trustees The BOT is the alumni group chartered by ATW nationals to be the governing body for all questions relating to chapter operations and governance. The BOT assists the chapter with member and new member discipline, chapter advisement, risk management, and minimum expectations of the chapter. Blake Herndon '79 is chairman of the BOT. Other members include Steve Hoelscher '73, John Piper '75, Karl Holliman '79, James Benson '07, Blake Gudgel '07, Ryan Haynie '07, and Billy Arnold. Alumni Association The Alumni Association has been dormant for the last couple of years by design, pending the successful conclusion of The Campaign for Delta Kappa. Now that the fundraising effort has concluded, we will be starting the Alumni Association once again as the main organization for alumni news and activities. The president of the Alumni Association is Bob Purgason '75. All of these groups need your support! If you are interested in serving on any of these alumni organizations, please let us know at: • Housing Corporation: mdcarter@phillipsmurrah.com • Board of Trustees: blake.herndon@sbcglobal.net • Alumni Association: bpurgason@purgasonpartners.com Love and Respect, Mike Carter '76 Delta Kappa Housing Corporation President mdcarter@phillipsmurrah.com Active members during the inaugural Gatorfest philanthropy.
