The Ronald S. Knight Memorial Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the availabil- ity of five scholarships in the amount of $2,000 per scholarship for the upcom- ing academic year. The successful applicant must meet the following criteria: Graduation from a high school within the boundaries of the Tehama County Cattlemen's Asso- ciation; full-time (12 units or more) enrollment in an accredited junior college, four-year college or uni- versity beginning fall 2017; and pursuing a major in an agricultural or ag-related course of study with the in- tention of earning a bach- elor's or advanced degree. Selection will be based upon demonstration of scholastic achievement, community activities and work experience. The com- mittee is looking for a well- rounded applicant. To apply, send the se- lection committee a letter with the following infor- mation: when and where you graduated or expect to graduate from high school; your most current high school transcripts, and for college students, high school and current college transcripts; where you plan to enroll; pro- posed major; and career plans. Also include a brief re- sume and cover letter about yourself, how this scholarship will help you meet your career goals, contact information, and include a current photo for publicity. There is no formal ap- plication form. However, all areas must be included for the applicant to be con- sidered. Applicants are en- couraged to include up to three letters of recommen- dation. It is the desire of the committee to find a recip- ient who shows a combina- tion of great promise and a desire to work in Northern California following grad- uation. Selection of the scholar- ship recipient will be com- pleted by early-May. All ap- plicants will be informed of the committee decision. Award recognition for high school seniors will be given at the high school awards ceremony in June, and at the Cattlemen's annual Winter Dinner in January. The first $1,000 will be awarded after the scholar provides the committee adequate proof of enroll- ment with a minimum of 12 units of study lead- ing to an agricultural de- gree. The award of the sec- ond $1,000 will occur after the individual provides the committee adequate proof of completing the first se- mester with a 2.5 mini- mum grade point average. The selection committee is composed of five mem- bers including the presi- dent of the Tehama County Cattlemen's Association, the director of Cooperative Extension and three mem- bers of the Tehama County Cattlemen's Association. SCHOLARSHIP TehamaCountyCooperative Extension offers scholarship Mercy High School will host a gathering in Los Molinos and testing for incoming students next week. An informal meet and greet for interested stu- dents and parents will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek Restaurant in Los Molinos. Topics include financing and affordability, admis- sions, transportation, tech- nology, curriculum, coun- seling, athletics, clubs, ac- tivities and more. There will be an oppor- tunity to meet with par- ents, faculty and admin- istration. Pizza and bever- ages will be served. On Thursday, any pub- lic school eighth-graders planning to enroll at Mercy High School should plan to attend a second math and English placement test- ing session, being held at 4 p.m. at the school, 233 Riverside Way (behind Taco Bell). Students should bring two No. 2 pencils, a basic scientific calculator, and water. Testing takes approximately 90 minutes. To reserve a seat, call the school at 527-8313.
