8 | r e d f c u.o r g I N O U R C O M M U N I T I E S When the nation observed National Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17 this year, Redstone Federal Credit Union got into the fun in a big way! "Redstone Acts of Brightness'' Redstone used that date to kick off its own Redstone Acts of Brightness – a yearlong focus on doing special things to brighten the lives of individuals throughout Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Arab, Athens, Murfreesboro, Fayetteville, Scottsboro, Hartselle and Guntersville. Brightness Crews showed up at gas stations in numerous communities and bought gas for people who showed up at the pump. Our Brightness Crews shared laughs, tears, and hugs with individuals who drove up for gas. Some were on their way to funerals; some said their cars had never before been full; and still others offered to fill someone else's tank as their way of "paying it forward." Sharon Junior, one of the Brightness Crew members, said she believed that she gained more from the encounters than those who got the free gas. "It was just wonderful to meet with and talk with people from throughout our community and just let them know how much Redstone cares,'' Junior said. "We're in the People Helping People business and this is just one way we show it. But it's such a meaningful way. If you drive, you need gas.'' e crew also gave each person a small card that said: "Brighten someone else's day, too!'' Brightness Crews will be in the communities each month this year – brightening lives and sharing hugs. Next time, they may be buying groceries, paying pet adoption fees, or any number of surprises that are sure to brighten a person's day and even their month.
