3 SIGMA PH I EPSILON Generations ConneCt for Mentorship proGraM Alumni Offer Collegiate Career Development and Guidance O n December 29, 2016, Oregon Alpha conducted its regular mentorship gathering in Portland. Eight collegiate members and 10 alumni met to share life experiences and to answer members' career and job development-related questions. The informational gathering was led by alumnus Mark Pahl '90, and has occurred biannually for the past three years. It provides an excellent forum for leadership development and career counseling. Numerous undergraduates were present for the program, including John Goetze '18, chemical engineering; Peter Goetze '20, mechanical engineering; Michael Sullivan '20, accounting/ marketing; Luke Finnell '20, pre-business; Hayden Ferrell '19, mechanical engineering; Jake Oelrich '18, education; Cooper Brunner '19, finance; and Glenn Miller '19, mechanical engineering. In addition to the active members, several alumni attended the event and provided a wealth of Sigma Pi Epsilon wisdom to the collegiate brothers. Alumni included Vic Ceserani '88, David "DJ" Waldron '87, Scott Wilcox '89, Steve King '89, Chris Edwards '96, Randy Everett '91, Steve Cook '76, Mike Goetze '87, and Scott Thompson '90. Adams '48, former CH2M partner, structural engineer and community leader, entered Chapter Eternal on July 30, 2016, in Corvallis, Ore., at the age of 91. Bob attended the University of Colorado, Oregon State, and Yale University, where he earned two bachelor's degrees and a master's degree, respectively. He was a U.S. Naval Reserve member before joining CH2M as a structural/civil engineer in 1949. Bob would go on to serve as office regional manager, director of civil engineering, vice president, and senior consultant at the company's Corvallis office. He retired in 1988. As an active member of the community, Bob served on the Oregon Judicial Fitness Commission as chairman for two years and helped found the Benton County Planning Commission. He also served as a member of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and the Oregon State Board of Higher Education. Howard M. Saucy '52 entered Chapter Eternal on October 26, 2016. Howard worked with his parents on the family farm in Dundee, Ore., until he began his agricultural studies at OSU. Howard traveled to France in the 1950s on the International Farm Youth Exchange program. He earned a master's of teaching degree from Western Oregon University. Howard taught at Metzger Elementary in Tigard, Ore., and was chosen to design the new library after the school burned. He retired in 1973 after losing his hearing, but continued to live a full and active life. He loved square dance calling, growing extensive gardens, and tree planting. His wife, Margaret, three children, and seven grandchildren will greatly miss him. James E. Whiteley '54 was born on April 30, 1932, to Hiram Everett and Martha Jane (Walker) Whiteley in Des Moines, Iowa. He entered Chapter Eternal on July 15, 2016, in Milwaukie. After moving with his family to Portland, he graduated from Oregon State University. Jim began his service in the U.S. Army in 1954.
