For cyclists, the difference between winning and losing can come down to a simple matter of weight. Possi- bly that's why we never saw Lance Armstrong towing a little trailer filled with snacks and beverages. And how about those climbers? Imagine anyone attempting to schlep a set of Samsonite to the top of Mt. Everest. As flights go, it was ordinary. Still, the trip stands out in my memory as one of my all- time favorites. That's because I traveled light. I flew to Dallas in the morning, spoke at a lun- cheon and returned home later that evening. It was so simple. No luggage to check, no carry-on, nothing. No straining to hoist all of that heavy stuff into the overhead compartment. I was free to just walk on, strap in and relax. I was unencumbered and carefree. It was fantastic and the best way to travel. I guess one would call this "travel lite." There's something to be said My point -- and yes I do have one -- is savvy cyclists and climbers are keenly aware of the weight they're carrying. They know the success of their endeavor depends on their ability to reach their goals without delay. LM man retrieves save their travel trailer were able to rescue much more during the early days of the Ponderosa Fire near Shingletown and Manton. Steve and Kassidy Fox belong to Bald Eagle Hunting at Lake McCumber in Shingletown. After the fire started, the Foxes headed toward the campground where a group tried to retrieve travel trailers on Sunday. horse from fire zone A Los Molinos couple trying to There were eight trailers in all. When they reached Shingletown, though, they were turned around and sent away. Monday morning, Steve Fox decided to give it one more try to hopefully save their trailer. He made it through, passed the fire area and quickly hooked up to the trailer on Thatcher Mill Road. When he was heading out, Steve remembered one 6-year-old girl, Kaley Schorovsky, who had a horse in the area she had had since she was an infant. He grabbed the horse and brought it home safely in the trailer. The Schorovskys' trailer along witb the other trailers were still in the fire's path. The Foxes presented Kaley with her horse Tuesday morning at school and her eyes filled with tears as she saw her beloved horse. The only thing she could say was, "Steve is my hero. He saved my horsie from the fire." Review your load. And so it is with you. The heav- ier the load you're carrying, the more difficult will be your journey and the more trouble you'll have reaching your goal. So, are you enjoying your You can divide every- thing you are carrying into two categories: tan- gible and intangible. Tangibles might be too many possessions, heavy debt, clutter and an over- committed calendar. Intangibles might be per- fectionism, fear, doubt, guilt, worry and regret. Release what you can- not control. It is possible you're trying to manage burdens you were never meant to keep -- like regret. It adds nothing to your life and only wears you down. The past is over, so let it go. Stare down your fears and doubts. And worry? Set it down. Re-evaluate your possessions. While it's true that possessions mean all the stuff you own, it also refers to your debt. Like unsecured debt.
