National FFA Week takes place the last week in Feb- ruary covering President Jefferson's birthday be- cause of the role he had in the agricultural world. Red Bluff FFA celebrated Feb. 22 through March 3. The week was filled with fun dress up days from American Day Mon- day, Plaid Tuesday, Work- out Wednesday, Beach Day Thursday and -ER Friday where students dressed up in a profession or item that ended in -ER. Along with dressupdaysthe leadership teamplannedlunchtimeac- tivities that were made to get the members involved. One of the week's events was creating a leadership bag that contained goodies for Greenhand members. The bag consisted of items toencourageGreenhands— firstyearmembers—tostay involved throughout their agriculture high school ca- reer. The advisors, leader- ship team and officer team took some time and ex- plained the importance of the FFA and talked about some of their experiences through the organization in hopes to keep the members engaged and eager to grow. Tuesday after school the chapter had more than 100 students at their monthly social, which consisted of walking to Firehouse Pizza and Lariat Bowl. The mem- bers gathered around the Ag department right after school and headed to Fire- house to enjoy pizza, then walked to the bowling alley tohangoutwithothermem- bers while they bowled. The chapter ended the week on Friday at lunch providing a free hot dog feed campus wide. Today's FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow and, by getting more students involved, will improve the future of agriculture. The Red Bluff FFA Chap- ter had a fun-filled week with lots of smiles while sharing the importance of National FFA Week. Students in grades 5-8 have the opportunity to attend Red Bluff's newest middle school: LAVA, the Lassen Antelope Volcanic Academy. We are looking to expand in the next year, but space is already limited. This is a great opportunity for families to be a part of an innovative, new school that offers rigorous instruction, small class size, and real choice. Our core classes include: math, English, history, science, and Spanish. In the afternoon, we offer elective classes in American Sign Language, art, band, computer skills, dance, Genius Hour, guitar, tutorial, and yearbook. LAVA's partnership with Lassen Volcanic National Park gives our kids access to the park and hands-on experience in natural sciences! Registration will be open from March 1, 2017 through May 31, 2017. Returning students from 2016-'17 are guaranteed placement at LAVA next year. Siblings of current students will receive priority placement. Families who meet the registration deadline may be sub- ject to a Lottery Drawing for enrollment, depending on available space.
