F or Chris Accashian '97, Sigma Chi initially struck him as a good group of guys from all walks of life. As he contemplated becoming a member of the Greek system at U.Va., he realized that, unlike other fraternities, Psi was more than just a fraternity. "They were more about lifelong bonds and principles. It's for this reason that I continue to stay connected, because my values as an individual are so closely aligned with what Sigma Chi is all about," Chris says. "I realize that more and more as I get older, I work to instill those same values in my children." Chris is the CEO of Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He is responsible for all aspects of daily operations, strategy, and employee and physician relations. It is the "deep sense of personal responsibility" embedded in the principles of Sigma Chi that resonates best with him and his career. "Service and servant leadership are central to who I am and what I do," Chris says. "Being in Sigma Chi helped me to reinforce the importance of leadership, service, honor, character, and personal responsibility." Aside from the life lessons Chris learned from Psi Chapter, he has many fond memories of his Brothers. Chris will never forget hanging out in the "wookie hole" with Sean Ozbolt '97; the many basketball pickup games at the Sigma Chi half court; and preparing his world famous steak and snake chili in the basement kitchen with chili cook-off partner Trap Kloman '97. "Charlottesville remains one of my favorite places on earth and I always enjoy going back to reminisce and relive fond memories through familiar places," Chris says. "At the same time, I enjoy seeing the continuous investment the University makes in the upkeep of the Grounds." Much like the University's commitment to the upkeep of its historic buildings and property, Chris understands the necessary financial investment we all must make in maintaining the Psi Chapter House. "Sigma Chi brought us together and, as a result, added unbelievable joy to my life," Chris says. "I thought it was important to recognize and appreciate that in a tangible way by giving back. I especially enjoy the thought of one day taking my son to our Sigma Chi Chapter House and sharing memories of my time at 608 Preston Place." Chris and his Psi Brothers have stayed strongly connected over the years. Each year they get together for a "destination draft" for their fantasy football league. Weddings and vacations have also kept him and his Brothers together. "The men I met as a Sigma Chi continue to shape me in who I am today," Chris says. "I'm a better person because I shared formative years with authentically good people who were also intelligent and loved to have a lot of fun!" Chris and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Henrico, Virginia, with their two children, James and Lucy. In Chris's spare time he enjoys trying to figure out the maddening game of golf, traveling, and spending time with his family. You can contact him at: caccashi@gmail.com.
