Gutter Glitter is a part of the
Fayetteville music scene. Up &
Coming Weekly had a chance to
chat with them recently.
UCW: Who are your members
and what instruments do they play?
GG:Brandy Jacobs does vo-
cals and piano. Kendal Kinlaw
plays the drums
UCW: Give us a brief history
lesson on the band. When and
where did you get started?
GG: We met when Kendal
replied to an internet ad I had
out for a drummer in February of
2009. He was the only drummer I
tried out. He really understood the
music, both musically and mentally,
and didn't try to change it into
something else. We formed here in
Fayetteville, although Kendal is from Bladenboro.
UCW: How did the band get its name?
GG: The name comes from drug slang. We write about the darker things in
life — including the effects of drugs on people's lives, and we wanted a name that
reflects that.
UCW: How would you define your music?
GG: Kind of like metal played on piano. Lots of minor keys, really eclectic
drumming and angry vocals.
UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music?
GG: Between the two of us we listen to so much music that it would be hard
to put down any favorites. People have compared us to the Dresden Dolls, for the
simple fact that we use the same instruments.
UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration
come from?
GG: Yes, we write our own music. We get inspiration mainly from how crazy
life can sometimes be, in our own and in others' lives.
UCW: If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be?
GG: Angry piano!
UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band?
GG: We really hope that we'll be able to reach out to people with our
music, both lyrically and musically. We really want our music to have an impact
on people.
UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now?
GG: Hopefully touring with several CDs recorded and a great fan base.
UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in the
near future?
GG: We will be playing at the
Rock Shop on March 26, and our
music can always be heard at our
myspace: http://www.myspace.com/
