But are you aware that some of its benefits can also pay off for the next generation of your family? To understand why this is so, it's necessary to be familiar with a Roth IRA's features. For starters, when you contribute to a Roth IRA, your earn- ings have the potential to grow tax free, provided you don't start taking withdrawals until you're 591⁄2 and you've had your account at least five years. The amounts you contributed aren't taxed when withdrawn because you've already paid taxes on the money you put in. And the potential for tax-free earnings can continue even when your beneficiaries inherit your Roth IRA, though you'll need to con- sult with your tax advisor on this issue. A Roth IRA also offers other fea- tures that can help you build resources for retirement while possibly helping your surviving family members. For one thing, you can contribute to your Roth IRA for as long as you have some earned income, up to the contri- bution limits, and as long as you meet certain income limitations. Even if you've officially "retired," you might do some consulting or part-time work. So you could put some of your earn- ings into your Roth IRA. This ability Roth IRA: For your retirement ... and beyond If you're somewhat familiar with to keep funding your Roth IRA virtu- ally indefinitely can give you more flexibility in managing your retirement income — and, depending on how you do manage that income and what your other objectives may be, you may also end up with more money that could be left to your beneficiaries. Also, unlike a tradition- al IRA or a 401(k), a Roth IRA does not require you to start taking minimum distributions at age 701⁄2. In fact, you are never required to withdraw money from your Roth IRA. And by leaving your account intact for as long as possible, you'll potentially have more money available for a variety of options — one of which may involve leaving sums to your beneficiaries. Your non- spouse beneficiaries must take annual required minimum distributions, but they have the option to take the distri- butions over their lifetime. Keep in mind, though, that your Roth IRA is part of your estate for pur- poses of federal estate taxes. In 2012, your estate would be subject to these taxes if it were worth more than $5.12 million (or less, if you made certain Using QuickBooks Everyday/QuickBooks Basics II – The Butte College Small Business Development Cen- ter (SBDC) presents Using QuickBooks Everyday/QuickBooks Basics II. Despite the high number of job seekers looking for work today, many employers are reporting they can't find the right person for the job. However, as a side benefit to investing in a Roth IRA, you may find that you could help out the next generation, or two, of your family. When you invest in a Roth IRA, your goal, first and fore- most, is to help fund your retirement. In fact, basically all your decisions regarding your Roth IRA — how much to contribute, where to invest the money and when to begin taking withdrawals — should be based on your own retire- This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones financial advisor. And since 80% of employees would consider leaving their current job if pre- sented with other oppor- tunities, according to a survey conducted by Opinion Research Corpo- ration, it's more impor- tant than ever to find ways to retain your employees. Studies have shown time and again that one of the biggest issues behind company retention is poor leadership and communi- cation. An employee's relationship with his or her supervisor is one of the most critical factors in creating a work environ- ment that encourages pro- ductivity, employee engagement, and compa- ny loyalty. Without a strong sense of mutual respect, the people you lead will always be look- ing for a way out. the likelihood of whether or not an employee will leave is in how they inter- act with their boss. So, if interactions around the office seem a little tense and you're worried about turnover, now's the time to make some changes. Invest in Your Lead- A strong indication of Hansen conferences, to help your leadership team better manage their employees – the list is end- less. If you're not sure what training your team needs, ask them for feed- back on where they feel they're lacking in man- agement skills. Or better yet, ask employees what they're not getting from they're man- agers. A great way to do this is through employee surveys that measure your organizations effective- ness. Don't Forget About Company Processes Part of understanding ers Through Training If ineffective leader- ship is plaguing your workforce, then creating leadership development programs for managers and supervisors is a good place to start. The Ameri- can Society for Training and Development report- ed that 51% of companies believe the skills of their current workforce do not match today's market challenges. Companies that invest the most in training and development see an 86% higher rate of return than those that do not. Make sure your business leaders fully understand policies and procedures – like the employee review process – that can have a big impact on workers. A study by the research and consulting firm, Burke International, recently found that out of the 70% of employees who receive annual reviews, less than half believe they're effec- tive at evaluating their performance. That could be due in part to how lead- ers administer reviews and the overall communi- cation about performance evaluations. Making sure your company's leaders can effectively imple- ment, follow, and commu- nicate company process and procedures is impera- tive to your success. Employee turnover costs can be expensive for your business. And when one employee leaves it can have a domino effect that impacts your entire team. With the expense of replacement hiring and training expenses, along with lost productivity, turnover cost businesses billions of dollars each year. If you're facing the possibility of attrition in your company, start mak- ing changes by develop- ing more effective leaders who encourage – not hin- der – employee engage- ment.
