The Ea- gles stretched the lead to eight before Corey Busta hit a bucket to make it 29- 23 Eagles. Those would be the Cards only points of the period and the Eagles went up 36-23 by the end of the third. This was the largest deficit the Cardinals had faced since opening day when they trailed the Or- land Trojans 35-22 at the half before coming back to win 76-70 in overtime. "Right before the end of the third I got tired of watching us stand around, so we got into the press and apparently it was the right thing to do," Wilkins said. The right thing it was. The Cards held the Ea- gles to one point in the fi- nal frame while putting 20 on the board, with 3s from Austin Mishoe and Zoppi and six points from Busta. The Cards pulled within two with just less than six minutes to play and nei- ther team would score for the next four minutes be- fore Mishoe tied it up at 37 and Busta put Corning up 39-37. "We had, what, six or seven or eight tries to tie the game and we couldn't score through the con- tact," Wilkins said. "They were letting the kids play, and leave it to the little guy to go running down the lane and hit a floater to tie it. He's done that for us before. And you know, shoot, if we're having trouble scoring, it's Corn- ing basketball, get the ball inside and let your big man go one-on-one, take the lead." After some misses from the Eagles, Zoppi and Tucker Berens each hit a pair of foul shots to seal the victory. Zoppi led the Cards with 16 points, including four 3s; Busta had 14,; Mishoe and Berens each had five; Marco Tapia had a 3 and Brendan Hoag had two. For the Eagles, Lambert Satlaverria started off hot, with 10 in the first half, but was shut down in the sec- ond half. Riley Pfrimmer had 10 and Pim Lewis put up eight. The No. 1 seed Cardi- nals go to 28-0, which ties a school record for wins in a season, Wilkins said. They will face the No. 2 Pierce Bears at 4:15 p.m. Friday at Butte College. The Bears beat the No. 3 Lassen Grizzlies 60-55 Wednesday night in Ar- buckle. FallRiver88, Bulldogs 41 MCARTHUR The No. 5 Los Molinos Bulldogs fell Wednesday night to the Fall River Bulldogs 88-41 in a game that was never close. Fall River scored at will in the first, going up 31-9, and piled it on in the sec- ond to go into the half up 55-21. Los Molinos scored 10 each in the third and fourth, but it was nowhere near enough. Los Molinos ends the season 19-9 overall and 4-4 league. No. 1 Fall River will take on the No. 6 Liberty Chris- tian Patriots at 4:15 p.m. Saturday at Shasta Col- lege. The Patriots upset the No. 2 Chester Volcanoes on Wednesday 73-53. Basketball FROM PAGE 1 CHIP THOMPSON — DAILY NEWS Corning's Austin Mishoe takes a shot Wednesday night against West Valley. won big without Durant. They captured the cham- pionship two years ago and followed that up with a league-record 73 wins last year. The Warriors, who beat the Bulls by 31 at home last month, were leading 85-84 when Butler hit two free throws with 2:53 left to start the game-ending run. Dwyane Wade buried a fadeaway jumper and Paul Zipser nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing to make it 91-85 with 1:41 left. Tip-Ins WARRIORS Coach Steve Kerr coached the game af- ter missing the morning shootaround because of a stomach illness. ...
