3 Phi Sigma Kappa Delta Triton Making Strides in Service New Executive Board Ready to Maintain Momentum A nother successful year is in the books for Delta Triton. With the conclusion of my presidential term, I am proud of the chapter's growth during the last year in service, philanthropy, and our membership. During the fall semester, our brothers completed 280 community service hours, a fantastic increase of 100 hours from the spring semester. Our brothers have been extremely active in seeking out opportunities for service, and we hope to see our cumulative hours increase as we grow as a chapter. The fall was also an incredible semester in terms of philanthropic fundraising. Our chapter paired with a local group of Special Olympics athletes and competed against a pairing in Bloomington in a flag football game. Most of the $2,600 raised during the semester came from this event, and despite being a fifth of the size of the IU chapter, we prevailed in dollars raised for the event. Delta Triton has made a giant shift in the way we handle our philanthropic efforts, and I am excited to see what our future philanthropy chairmen come up with to continue this growth. I am encouraged by our recruitment prospects over the next few semesters. Though I am no longer the chapter president, I will take over as the recruitment chairman. I will work my hardest to build upon the foundation already established. The spring semester began with a solid group of young men committed to going through the new member education process. We have doubled our chapter size within the last two years, and I am encouraged that it will happen again. The newly elected executive board is composed of the most passionate group of brothers I have seen during my time as an active member. I have every confidence they will excel within their positions. They are intelligent and driven to make Delta Triton the best we can be, and I cannot wait to see where they take our chapter in the next year. Finally, I cannot thank our alumni enough for the support you have given us during my tenure as president. I will always be available to answer any of your questions and hope you stop and visit us if you are ever in the area. Fraternally, Eric Hamilton '18, Former Chapter President hamilte@purdue.edu It's All about Location, Location, Location Tom Avery '82 on Delta Triton and the Best Location on Campus F or Tom Avery '82, the deciding factor in joining Phi Sigma Kappa was Delta Triton's 302 Waldron Street location. While he was often torn between work and engineering studies during his time in West Lafayette, Tom said whenever he would return to his Delta Triton home, it "was like going back to family." When the time came to secure this experience for others, Tom was motivated to pay it forward through the Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future campaign. "My desire to contribute to the chapter's campaign was a combination of all the great memories of everybody I was in the fraternity with and the knowledge that the university wants to take that space from the chapter," he said. "I wanted to support the chapter to help maintain that space as the best location on campus and as a place for people who were living away from home for the first time and needed that semblance of family." Tom believes rebuilding 302 Waldron Street will prove to be a valuable tool for recruiting the next generation of Phi Sigma Kappas at Purdue. He challenges all alumni to consider the beneficial experiences Delta Triton provided and ponder how those could have improved within the walls of a new chapter house. "I hope that anyone who is in the positon would consider trying to reach The Signet Society giving level as I have," Tom said. "With more and more contributions of that size, it will dramatically impact the future generations of Delta Triton for the better." Tom lives in Novelty, Ohio, and will soon transition into a sales position in 3D printers and 3D printer services. He hopes this career move will allow for more opportunities to connect with Delta Triton and his alumni brothers. Tom can be reached at tavery@nextec-3d.com.
