ByElliottAlmond BayAreaNewsGroup The Raiders could end up in Oakland by default after a diz- zying 24 hours that saw two im- portant investors — including global banker Goldman Sachs — withdraw from a stadium deal that would be the centerpiece of a move to Las Vegas. The Los Angeles Times, ESPN and other news organizations re- ported Tuesday that Goldman won't pursue a $1.9 billion sta- dium project less than a day af- ter billionaire casino owner Shel- don Adelson announced his fam- ily had withdrawn from the deal. The move casts doubt on how the Raiders might fund a 65,000-seat domed stadium that includes a $750 million public contribution. The Raiders recently had told the Las Vegas Stadium Author- ity board they could finance the stadium without Adelson, chief executive of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and a major contributor to President Donald Trump's campaign. But the Los Angeles Times re- ported that a source said Gold- man Sachs' involvement hinged on Adelson's $650 million in- vestment. The global banker has a history of helping finance sta- dia, including Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Two years ago, Goldman was involved in the talks to house the ChargersandRaidersinCarson,a LosAngelessuburb.TheChargers sinceannouncedplanstoplayata newstadiumbeingbuiltinIngle- wood by the Los Angeles Rams. It's unclear how the latest de- velopments will determine what Raiders owner Mark Davis de- cides to do next. A top Raiders executive said Tuesday the team did not want to address the sit- uation publicly at the moment. But it has been a sudden turn- around since the Raiders submit- tedaproposedleaseagreementto the stadium authority Thursday that angered local officials and caught the Adelson family un- aware. The agreement included a $1 annual rent and demands on controlling the scheduling and field markings for University of NevadaLasVegasfootballgames. The Rebels are supposed to share the facility with the Raiders, who would invest $500 million. "In addition to being discour- aged by the surprise submission, I was deeply disappointed for the disregard the Raiders showed our community partners, partic- ularly UNLV, through the pro- posed agreement," Adelson said in a statement. RAIDERS Goldman Sachs out, attention turns back to Oakland Staff report MT. SHASTA The CNISSF North 1 Ski and Snowboard race league held its second race of the season Monday at Mt. Shasta Ski Park. The league includes teams from Red Bluff, Enterprise, Shasta, Foothill, Mt. Shasta and Weed high schools. The race included a Giant Sla- lom for snowboard and a slalom for the skiers. The top four scor- ing racers earn points for their school team. Organizers say the caliber of competition was excellent again this week. Mt. Shasta captured the team first in skiing and Shasta cap- tured first in the snowboard event, however, the combined lead for all racers switched from Mount Shasta to Shasta this week. The race is very close, with only 30 points out of 1,260 sepa- rating the two schools. The winner in Ski girls was Carter Chase from Mount Shasta, and Wrenna and Bella Williams completed the 1, 2, 3 sweep for Mount Shasta in that race. The winner in Ski boys was Connor Sousa from Red Bluff, second went to Paul Pressman of Shasta and third to Devon Treat of Red Bluff. The winner in Girls Snow- board was Tate Harkness of Mount Shasta, second went to Sage Will and third to Maken- zie Fleming, both from Shasta. The winner in Boys Snowboard was Kyle Gardiner from Shasta, second went to Justin Youngman from Foothill and third went to Marc Speake from Shasta. After the first race of the sea- son, held Jan. 16 at the same lo- cation, Red Bluff was in fourth place for girls skiers, third for boys skiers, fifth for girls snow- board and sixth for boys snow- board. After the second race Monday, Red Bluff girls skiers moved up to third, boys to second, girls snow- board to fourth and boys snow- board remained in sixth. By Cam Inman Bay Area News Group New 49ers general manager John Lynch made his first talent acquisition Tuesday, hiring long- time Denver Broncos scout Adam Peters as the 49ers' vice president of player personnel. Peters, a Cupertino native, spent the past eight years with the Broncos, including this season as their director of college scouting. A Monta Vista High School grad- uate, he worked as a New Eng- land Patriots scout from 2003-08, when he won two of his three Su- per Bowl rings. "When it comes to stars in this industry, Adam Peters is certainly one of them," Lynch said in a statement. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from two incredibly successful organi- zations, and is one of the most re- spected talent evaluators in the National Football League." Peters will help Lynch transi- tion into a front-office career. The 49ers hired Lynch on Sunday even though he's never worked in a per- sonnel department, having played 15 seasons as a star safety before becoming a broadcaster in 2008. "I know how much John El- way and the Broncos organiza- tion value and respect Adam, and I am very grateful that they have allowed him to pursue such a tremendous opportunity," Lynch added. "We are thrilled to have Adam join the team and look for- ward to creating something spe- cial together." Kyle Shanahan, who the 49ers expect to hire after the Super Bowl, said he's extremely excited about Lynch's hiring. "John is a guy that I've developed a relation- ship over the years," Kyle Shana- han told Super Bowl reporters Monday in Houston. "He's a guy that lives and dies football. He's a very smart guy who, I think, re- ally wanted to get back into it." • Kyle Shanahan said he doesn't envision bringing his dad, Mike, with him to the 49ers in a formal capacity. "As far as him working in the building and stuff like that, it's definitely not been in the dis- cussion," Kyle Shanahan said ac- cording to NFL transcripts. The younger Shanahan won't shy from seeking wisdom from his 64-year-old father, who logged 20 seasons as a head coach and was the 49ers offensive coordina- tor on their last Super Bowl-win- ning team 22 years ago. 49ERS New GM Lynch makes 1st acquisition Shanahansaysdadwon't come along to new job CONTRIBUTED The Red Bluff High School girls basketball program poses in Pink Out jerseys.
