ByHeatherHoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews. com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The 55th an- nual Gelding Sale was scheduled Friday night with more than 90 horses up for bid at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale at the Tehama District Fairground's Pau- line Davis Pavilion. Spectators and buyers alike came to enjoy the sale with crowds forming in the pavilion when the doors opened 3:30 p.m. Friday. Crews were setting up for the Gelding Sale, which was set at 6 p.m. This is the second sale buyer Danielle Gibson of Red Bluff has been to and she said she was looking forward to buying another horse this year. Gibson is looking for a horse in good condition that has a good personal- ity. A horse that seems eas- ily trainable is a top priority when buying, she said. She was back this year because the horse she purchased at the 54th Gelding Sale was a good one. Other were first time buyers at the sale, includ- ing Summer Tanner of Sac- ramento. She was hoping to find a calm horse that isn't hot, but also gutsy and re- sponsive without being ag- itated. Reid Wall of Olympia, Washington was looking for a calm horse during his first time at the sale. Wall looks for a horse that doesn't kick and isn't hot headed, as he said that could be dangerous. He was hoping to find a horse with good conformation and strong athletic ability. Some buyers, like Roney Bradley of Burnt Woods, Oregon, have been coming to the sale for many years but haven't found the right horse just yet. Bradley said he enjoys coming to the event each year. This will be his 13th year and when he is in the market for a new horse he looks for one that's good looking, has a nice color and good training ability. During the 2016 sale changes were made, in- cluding a $7,500 guaran- teed payout for the Top Cow Horse, which was to be done this year as well. The win- ner of this prize along with the other results from the Gelding Sale will be posted to redbluffdailynews.com as they become available. Calf branding was added to the events this year to provide a more ranch-like showcase for geldings.
