Ontheair 20 years, was a candidate for the 49ers coaching va- cancies each of the past two years. He told MMQB. com in March he no lon- ger desired to coach, add- ing: "The more I look at it, I think I could help a team more at this point in my ca- reer as a consultant. Not as a head coach, but helping ownership put a team to- gether, because you do feel you have an eye for what it takes to win a champi- onship." The Colts are not pur- suing McDonough and in- stead have interviewed Pa- ton, the Kansas City Chiefs' Chris Ballard and the Seat- tle Seahawks' Trent Kirch- ner and Scott Fitterer. In- house candidate Jimmy Raye III and the Green Bay Packers' Eliot Wolf also were on the interview docket. All were 49ers' can- didates, although the team could not garner a meet- ing with Ballard; Kirchner withdrew from consider- ation a day after his inter- view. It's been nearly four weeks since 49ers CEO Jed York began the search process, conducting in- terviews with Paraag Marathe, the 49ers' chief strategy officer and execu- tive vice president of foot- ball operations, as well as Brian Hampson, their di- rector of football adminis- tration and analytics. Shanahan, 37, is ex- pected to become their fourth coach in four sea- sons. Trent Baalke pre- sided over the personnel department the past seven years before his Jan. 1 dis- missal with then-coach Chip Kelly. 49ers FROM PAGE 1 The authority would own the stadium because Las Vegas hotel room tax revenues are slated to pay $750 million toward con- struction. The Raiders have pledged $500 million and Adelson's family has promised $650 million. Adelson initiated con- versations with Raiders owner Mark Davis about a team move a year ago, and was instrumental in get- ting a tax increase passed by the Nevada Legislature last October. A site hasn't been picked for the 65,000-seat sta- dium, although a parcel of land near the Las Vegas Strip has emerged as a pre- ferred site. Raiders President Marc Badain told the authority the team is focusing on 62 acres across Interstate 15 from the Mandalay Bay re- sort and talking with land- useplanners, architectsand constructionexecutives, the Review-Journal said. The Raiders paid $3.5 million in rent to play at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in 2016, up from $925,000 for the 2015 sea- son. The team has options to remain at the stadium for the 2017 and 2018 sea- sons. Raiders FROM PAGE 1 chosen to host the week- end as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations. Don't expect major hockey news out of this party, however. Many fans and players hoped for a swift resolution to the NHL's quadrennial decision on whether to shut down during the Olympics, but Bettman has indicated that a de- cision on Pyeongchang is unlikely to be made dur- ing the Board of Gover- nors meeting this week- end in LA.
