Dorene "Dee Dee" D'Adamo will provide the keynote address at the 15th annual Colusa Farm Show Rabobank Breakfast, starting at 7 a.m. Wednes- day, Feb. 8 in Saint Berna- dette's Hall, 745 Ware St., in Colusa. D'Adamo was appointed to the State Water Re- sources Control Board in 2013. She previously served on the California Air Re- sources Control Board un- der governors Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gray Davis, and she was a senior policy advi- sor for both congressmen Jim Costa and Dennis Cardoza. D'Adamo earned a Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. D'Adamo lives in Turlock and is married to a farmer. Breakfast committee chairman Les Heringer said the committee is pleased to have D'Adamo as the guest speaker. "In her role as a direc- tor on the State Water Re- sources Control Board, she is very involved in the Sustainable Groundwa- ter Management Plan and minimum flow require- ments for fish now be- ing discussed on the San Joaquin River and Sacra- mento River systems," Her- inger said. "These are is- sues that are relevant and timely for our audience." Vernon Crowder, senior vice president and agricul- tural economist for Rabo- bank's Food & Agribusi- ness Research and Ad- visory (FAR) group, will provide his annual eco- nomic report. Crowder and his team analyze and con- duct market research on California agribusiness as well as the North Ameri- can fresh fruit and pro- duce sectors. Crowder is a graduate of the California Agricultural Leadership Program. Hosted by alumni of the CSU, Chico College of Ag- riculture, California Agri- cultural Leadership Foun- dation, and Alpha Gamma Rho, the event has raised more than $300,000 for scholarships and leader- ship programs in its 15- year history. Sponsorships are still available, and tickets can be purchased in advance for $40 by calling the Col- lege of Agriculture Office at 898-5844. The ticket price will rise to $50 at the door. All proceeds go to the CSU, Chico College of Ag- riculture and the Califor- nia Agricultural Leader- ship Foundation. COLUSAFARMSHOW Water Resources board member to speak The 22nd annual Jim Ow- ens Memorial Ranch Rodeo concluded last weekend with a repeating Top Team from Chiloquin, OR. TNT Cattle Co. with Jimmy Gal- lagher, Billy Ward and Jason Duby receiving the buckles. Top Hand Billy Ward re- ceived a trophy handmade saddle made by Judd Miller, and donated by Elanco, Ani- mal Health International of Red Bluff, Judd Miller Sad- dlery and the JP Ranch Ro- deo Committee. It was a beautiful hand carved sad- dle; too nice to use for work. The stirrups for 2nd place to Spring Ranch, Shandon, CA with Craig Giacome- lli, Wyatt Bourdet, Frankie Martinez. There was a tie for 1st af- ter the finals. To break tie, the points from long go de- cided the winner. Third place with spurs to Nonella Livestock, Klamath Falls, OR with Mark Non- ella, Tom Nonella, Roger Nonella. Nonella won the long go Herd Counting in 1.09, and the finals with 1.04.75. The cattle were a challenge, since there were calves, Angus heifers and roping steers. Fourth place saddle pads C Cup Livestock, Modesto to Dalton Jim, Clayton Edsall, and Joe Clarot. Clayton Edsall rode Sly for the Top Horse award in 2017. Sly also won the award in 2015. Awards included a silver bit donated by Bub and Shellie Ragan, and new reins donated by Cunning- ham Fences. Fifth place saddle pads to Buckhorn Ranch, Williams with Daxton Jim, Craig Boyd, and Dan Holland. Sixth place saddle pads to One Bar Cattle Co.; Williams with Berry O'Larie, Taylor Smith and Brec Smith. Berry O'Larie had the Wildest Ride in 2017, win- ning a silver buckle and cash. In 2016 Mark Nonella won the 1st annual Wild- est Ride in the bronc rid- ing. There were many other riders having wild rides on Saturday morning and the finals. Shasta Livestock donated JP Ranch Rodeo vests to the 6 top teams and to the judges, Smokey Pritchett, Andy Adams, Don Awbrey. The Grand Entry at the finals featured Lloyd Faria with the American Flag as he circled the arena to the "John Wayne Tribute to America" which I had seen for the first time at a Red Bluff Round-Up years ago. The California flag was car- ried by the next generation, andmyneighbor,HankBun- ting while Mahlon Owens sang the National Anthem. Announcer Scott Allen re- membered friends we have lost in the past year when Lacey Hook entered the arena leading a horse with an empty saddle. 16 year old John Berryrose, Kurt Sale, brand inspector Les Barlow, Kristine LaGrande, Har- vey Camacho, and my high school rodeo friends, cat- tle ranchers Tom and Ma- rie Vestal, McArthur who passed away, 18 hours apart. Their Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. today at the Inter Mountain Fairgrounds. Tom Vestal, DVM was District 1 CHSRA President whenhischildrenHardyand Tami were members. Their son-in-law Brian Humphry and grandsons Steel and Sterling Humphry were the Triangle V Ranch team at this year's ranch rodeo. I missed seeing Kenneth Owens as Arena Director, when his son Roy Owens took his place this year.
