Taking control early, the Car- dinals went up by 10 points after the first period and took a 35-18 lead into halftime. Noah Zoppi had 12 points and three rebounds, Brendan Hoad had 11 points and nine rebounds, Austin Mishoe had eight points and three rebounds and Daniel Vazquez had six points and seven rebounds. PleasantValley60, Spartans 36 RED BLUFF Outside of a shutout second period Thursday night, the Red Bluff Spartans stayed with the league-leading Pleasant Valley Vikings, but took a 60-36 home loss. The Spartans struggled again in the third and the Vikings ex- tended their lead to 50-22, before the Spartans made a small come- back in the fourth that wouldn't be enough. The Pittsburgh Pen- guins captain signed what he could and slipped away. From Crosby and Mario Lemieux to the sneakiest autograph hound, every part of the hockey world has converged on Hollywood for a week- end of sun, fun and celebration. Before the game's best current players face off at Staples Center in the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, the 100 top players in hockey his- tory are being honored as part of "The NHL 100" during the league's centennial. Commissioner Gary Bettman will offer his opinion on the state of a league in transition, with everything from video review to a Las Vegas franchise changing its face as the NHL hits triple digits. One of the NHL's most funda- mental changes will be front-and- center on Sunday: The 3-on-3 for- mat that has been adopted for reg- ular-season overtimes is back for the All-Star Game, which became a four-division tournament of high- scoring hockey last year. "It's a lot of fun, but it's a little tiring for a defenseman," said Drew Doughty, the Kings' All-Star defen- seman and Norris Trophy winner. "That's the way it is in the regular season, too. I can't even imagine be- ing a goalie in that." The NHL is arriving just in time for a gorgeous weekend of beach weather and a welcome respite from the heavy rainstorms that have hit the California coast in recent weeks. The Fan Fair is already underway down Figueroa Street at the down- town convention center, welcoming tens of thousands who want to pose with the Stanley Cup, gather alumni autographs or take slap shots while learning about hockey's lengthy his- tory in Southern California. The Associated Press LAS VEGAS The Oakland Raid- ers are proposing to pay $1 a year in rent to play at a $1.9 bil- lion domed stadium if the team moves to Las Vegas. Officials on both sides char- acterized a lease and use agree- ment presented to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority as a starting point for negotiations with the public entity that will own, but not operate, the yet-to-be-built facility. The Raiders last week filed paperwork with the NFL to move to Nevada, likely by the 2020 season. "This is the beginning of a process," executive authority consultant Jeremy Aguero said Friday. "It's a part of what the Stadium Authority will need to consider." Team Executive Vice Presi- dent Dan Ventrelle told the au- thority on Thursday that a lot of work needs to be done, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The 117-page lease proposal covers the team's use of the sta- dium, luxury box seats, conces- sion sales, ticket revenues, mer- chandise and parking. It also addresses stadium naming rights, advertising and broad- cast rights. It doesn't identify an opera- tor, or specify a role for proposed stadium backer Sheldon Adelson and his casino company, Las Ve- gas Sands Corp. NFL rules prohibit casino op- erators from having ownership roles in teams. Any relocation to Las Vegas must be approved by 24 of the 32 NFL team owners. NFL Raiders propose $1 annual rent for Las Vegas By Cam Inman Bay Area News Group Business picked up Friday in the San Francisco 49ers' pro- longed search for a new coach and general manager, starting with an afternoon meeting in At- lanta with Kyle Shanahan, their presumed coach. Shanahan still can't be offi- cially hired until after next week- end's Super Bowl, but the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator also was to join the 49ers brass during a Friday night meeting with GM finalist George Paton in Atlanta. Terry McDonough, another general manager candidate, was expected to meet with Shanahan and the 49ers on Saturday, as- suming Paton doesn't secure the job beforehand. Paton, the Minnesota Vikings assistant general manager, is 1 of 6 candidates for the Indianapo- lis Colts general manager job that opened last Saturday, and he was among the first wave interviewed this week. Paton's second inter- view with the 49ers was also the second in the Atlanta area, having flown there for an initial meeting Jan. 6, which is also when the 49ers had their only previous in- terview with Shanahan. As for McDonough, the Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel was a late entry to the 49ers search, and his first inter- view took place Jan. 13. The 49ers have left open the possibility that other GM candi- dates could enter the mix, though that seems only likely if Shanahan is strongly opposed to either Pa- ton or McDonough, or has some- one else in mind.
