DoyouhearHimcall- ing? He calls in the early morning hours beckoning with moist dew upon each blade of grass and fragile flower. The sun rises and kisses the moun- tain tops with a heavenly glaze, and birds awaken, filling the air with melodious music. Gentle breezes grace the atmosphere, filling it with the perfume of fragrant flowers and foliage. Springs of water add to the orchestration of mel- ody, and roaring water- falls add thunderous ap- plause of praises to Al- mighty God. Flocks of birds fly together in majes- tic patterns, and soaring eagles fly above the clouds. Trees of all sizes and shapes frame the beauty and splendor of God's cre- ated terrain. Who will praise Him — the creator of the universe and all mankind? Who will answer His call, the eternal invitation to com- mune with Him? Those who have ears to hear and hearts that are open can hear the sweet and penetrating voice of God, calling out — "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gen- tle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). Yes, ears that will hear and hearts that will re- ceive His gift of life will no longer walk in darkness, but will be translated into the light of the Kingdom of God. "But as many as re- ceived Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12). "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name un- der heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). That name is Jesus, name above all names. "He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life" (1 John 5:12). What a mighty God we can serve. "Who has mea- sured the waters in the hollow of His hand, mea- sured heaven with a span and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?" (Isaiah 40:12). Who has all knowledge and all power to give life, and to sustain life? God alone! "Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of under- standing?" (Isaiah 40:13- 14). Whose love and mercy awakens us each new day with hope, healing and strength? "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23) Who has extended His hand of love, reaching out to His creation? God alone extends an eternal invi- tation of love — never de- manding, but ever invit- ing. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Jesus' arms are open to everyone who will come. Come and dine at the Mas- ter's table, filled with His love, tender mercies, and the gift of Eternal Life. "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him" (Psalm 34:8). PatriciaMartinisalong time resident of Tehama County. Grant Student Life Center. Seating is limited. Free tickets can be reserved on- line at simpsonu.edu/praise. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for those with advance tick- ets. The first part of the eve- ning will feature music by Simpson music students andfacultyandtheWomen's Choir. After intermission, the choirs will join DiMarco and her band for a collective worship experience. "We hope to recast tra- ditional hymns and the role of choir in the con- text of contemporary wor- ship leading," said Dr. Cyril Myers Jr., director of choral activities at Simpson. "In my experience, there is no greater or profound state- ment of collective and uni- fied worship and commu- nity than participation in a chorus." DiMarco, who helps lead worship at home and abroad, said she is excited about the opportunity to sing with the choirs and lead the audience in wor- ship. It Is Well Concert Poster "I've had the most sig- nificant experiences of God when I'm with a large group of people," she said. "It's like perfection walks into the room." SIMPSON UNIVERSITY Worship concert to feature Kristene DiMarco Patricia Martin By David Rising The Associated Press BERLIN Bavarian Catho- lic church authorities said Thursday they have closed Germany's last Bridgettine Order abbey at the request of the Vatican — renewing concerns about what will happen to the property, in- cluding a precious library, which now goes to the local diocese. AltomuensterAbbey, near Munich, holds a collection of some 500 books, including illuminated manuscripts from the 16th century, chants used by the uniquely women-led Bridgettine Or- der and processionals. Since the Vatican ordered the dissolution of the abbey at the end of 2015, the li- brary and the order's collec- tion of 2,300 statues, paint- ings and other works of art have been kept under lock and key. The Franciscan nun the Vatican put in charge of the abbey's closure, Sister Gabri- ele Konrad, has said they're simply being kept secure. But top Bridgettine scholars haveworriedthatthelibrary — estimated to hold some 80 percent of all known Bridgettine books — might be split upordamaged. They have collected nearly 2,000 signatures urging the Mu- nich-Freising diocese to pre- serve it for research. In announcing the clo- sure of Altomuenster, Mu- nich Vicar General Msgr. Pe- terBeersoughttoallaythose fears. He said that all books dating from before 1803, the yearofsecularizationinGer- many when principalities tookmostchurchproperties, wouldbedigitizedandmade publicly available. "In consultation with the Bavarian State Library, they will be made fully available online over the course of 2017," he said.
