After the onslaught of heavy foods wrought by the holidays, viewers can come back to Earth with common sense kitchen tips and other useful culinary information in a series returning to Food Network this week. In "Kitchen Sink," which returns Sunday, Jan. 15, co-hosts Tregaye Fraser, Spike Mendelsohn and Fanny Slater offer up a second season of food trends, Internet-inspired recipes, kitchen hacks, cooking shortcuts and other tips designed to educate and entertain. The co- hosts also head out of the studio and onto the street to check out various eateries and the new trends they are inspiring. Fraser, a Cordon Bleu-trained chef based in Atlanta, comes to the show after winning the 12th season of "Food Network Star." Her passions are fusion cuisine, thinking outside-the-box and fun – all of which she promises to bring to the show. "I'm the fun police," the 32-year-old Fraser says. "When I come in here, we've got to have fun at all times. And just really taking people's minds to another level about foods and mixing and matching ingredients that people may think don't necessarily go together. So I think I'm going to be here to make people believe that you can try anything and it'll be great." Such as? "Well, I do these deviled eggs and I put fried chicken on top," she says with a laugh. "I also do a ham and cheddar chicken waffle sandwich, so it's like a ham-and-cheddar waffle with fried chicken as the meat." Being a wife and mother, she's also a fan of kitchen organization and a current trend toward making dishes using only five ingredients. "You know, a lot of people think that's not possible but when they watch the show they'll see how it's possible," she says. "People think you need a million ingredients. You really don't." Tregaye Fraser What book are you currently reading? "Actually I'm reading a book called 'David and Goliath' by Malcolm Gladwell. It's about underdogs and battling giants. You know, it's me entering this new world and it helps you think better. You know, you may doubt yourself and it helps you with it." What did you have for dinner last night? "I actually had salmon, spinach and some mixed vegetables. I'm doing the whole seafood and veggie thing and I'm trying to stay away from rice. It's the hardest thing ever but I'm trying to do it (laughs). ... I've been doing good so far so we'll see how it goes." What is your next project? "Besides the 'Kitchen Sink,' I'm trying to work on my junior chef summer camp. We've been working on that all year, so I'm hoping by summer we can have a location for my junior chefs. We can go and cook every day and go to farms and learn and have fun. ... I love it. Kids are the future and I love when a kid is really into it and they really want to do it and you don't even have to push them. It's effortless." When was your last vacation, where and why? "It was last year for my birthday, I went to Puerto Rico and it was so fun. They know how to party over there. (laughs) ... Swam with the fish. It was great."
