Ontheair need approval from 24 of 32 owners to move but no matter what gets decided this offseason, the team is expected to stay in Oak- land for at least the next two years. EXTENSIONS Theotherbig financial decision revolves around star players Carr and Mack. Both are eligible for contract extensions on their rookie deals this off- season. Carr is a higher pri- ority since he can become an unrestricted free agent in 2018, while the Raiders hold a fifth-year option on Mack's contract because he was a first-round pick. It will take big money to lock up those players and if GM Reggie McKenzie follows his pattern of using roster bonuses instead of signing bonuses, it could limit what other moves the team could make in free agency. Raiders FROM PAGE 1 Mariah Castle led the Cardinals with 17 points and 15 rebounds, Morgan Mason had 9 points and Kristie Barr had 6. In Saturday's game the Cardinals took a lopsided loss 64-39 to the Convent of the Sacred Heart Cubs. Castle had 10 points and 11 rebounds; Kara Beck- with had 9 points and 10 boards; Mason had 7 points and Nancy Salas had 6. The Lady Cardinals (7-8) are scheduled to host the Pierce Bears (4-4) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. MercyWarriors The Mercy Warriors fell to the Dunsmuir Ti- gers Thursday 60-44, de- spite a big game from Mar- cus Kuechle, who put up 33 points and had 16 re- bounds. The Warriors would have a chance at a rematch Friday, though, when they faced the Tigers at the American Christian Acad- emy tournament at Simp- son College. The Tigers took that game 50-34 and Kuechle posted another double-double with 20 points and 18 boards. The Warriors fell Satur- day morning to American Christian Academy 53-30 and finally to New Life Christian later the same day 25-21. The Warriors (1-13) are scheduled to visit Biggs to take on the Wolverines (2- 9) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Warriors beat New Life Christian 33-30 Saturday and lost to Amer- ican Christian 44-20. No score was posted for Fri- day's game against Dun- smuir. Basketball FROM PAGE 1 fortunately, but that's how the game goes." Red Bluff, which be- gins Eastern Athletic League play at home Thursday against Chico, battled till the end, even continuing to hit 3s late in the fourth, with Gor- don canning another — his fourth — to feverishly try and get the Spartans back in it. Red Bluff finished 2-1 in the three-day tourna- ment, with wins over Par- adise and Las Plumas, both of which are division III playoff teams, to com- plete the week in second place at the annual event. "(Lassen) is a great team to face as we're going into league be- cause league is going to be very tough," Vazquez said. "They prepared us very well, now we got to move forward, work and be ready for a tough league. We got to make sure we're ready to go." The Spartans (6-6) will open league play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when they host the Chico Panthers (8-6). Red Bluff FROM PAGE 1 Mishoe in the closing min- utes rebuilt the margin and Corning went to the half up 31-21. The Cubs went on a 9-point run to open the sec- ond half and took the lead 32-31 with 3:25 left in the third. Mishoe, Busta and Hoag started hit shots, but the Cubs kept pace and fin- ished the period down one at 37-36. The Cubs went up to start the fourth before Zoppi tied it up with a pair of shots from the line and Marco Tapia hit a three to put the Cards back on top. The Cubs pulled even again just inside of 4 minutes to play, but pair of threes from Hoag and Zoppi and an- other bucket from Zoppi gave Corning a 50-42 lead. After some scrambling in the final 2 minutes neither team could gain momen- tum. A trio of free throws from Busta kept the lead comfortable and the Cardi- nals hung on for the win. "Key moments toward the end were back-to-back threes when the score was tied," Wilkins said. "We did it the right way. We got the ball inside and moved it out, we swung it around, we knocked down the open shots like we want to." Zoppi led the Cardinals with 21 points, Mishoe had 10, Busta had 9, Hoag had 8, Tapia had 3 and Tucker Be- rens had 2. With the win the Car- dinals remain undefeated on the season at 15-0 going into league play. "(The win) helps us to cross off a goal — our goal is to win every tournament we play in and we've been able to accomplish that and obviously having a home tournament as the last one is special to us," Wilkins said. "We really like begin able to win in front of the home crowd and it's nice going into league on a high note." Friday's semifinal The Cardinals dominated the Willows Honkers in Fri- day night's semifinal, hold- ing them scoreless through the first half of the first, third and fourth periods en route to a 62-24 win. Jumping out 7-0 half- way through the first, the Cardinals saw the Honk- ers battle back to finish the period 10-6. It was more of the same in the second and inside of 4 minutes to go in the half the Cardi- nals clamped down with a full court press. Mean- while Marco Tapia, Noah Zoppi and Austin Mishoe were draining three-point- ers, taking the Cardinals to halftime up 37-17. The Honkers wouldn't score again until midway through the third and they put up just 4 points in the period, 2 coming inside the final minute. At the end of three the Cardinals led by 30 at 51-21. With starters resting, the Cardinals de- fense held up and shut out the Honkers until midway through the final period and gave up just 3 in the period. Mishoe led the Cardinals with 14 points, including 4 three-pointers; Noah Zoppi had 12; Tucker Berens had 9; Tapia, Daniel Vazquez and Tyler Grine each had 6; Corey Busta had 5 and Johnny Bennett and Caleb Delong each had 2. The Cardinals begin league play at 7:30 p.m. Fri- day against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds (9-4) in Oro- ville.
