Sigma Omicron SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENTION: This newsletter is for alumnae and parents. If your daughter is still attending the University of Illinois, she will receive a copy at the chapter house. If she has graduated, please send us her address to update our records. Thank you. Sigma Omicron Chapter of Kappa Delta University of Illinois P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested acquiring a loan, real estate agreements, and detailed due diligence with building inspections. Through these screenings and deliberations, we proudly share our vision for our beloved Kappa Delta at the University of Illinois: The new Sigma Omicron chapter house will be uniquely our brand, inviting a lifelong belonging and commitment to our bonds of sisterhood. The design will be classic architecture, providing timeless functional livability that welcomes all generations of Kappa Delta within the financial parameters set forth. We will all gather in our home that makes a statement of our traditions and strong bonds. The front door will be iconic and recognized by our community of sisters and the community of the University of Illinois. A grand central staircase will allow our members to gather and greet all who enter with a lasting first impression of Sigma Omicron. Our new chapter house will represent permanent friendship, comfort, and security in being Kappa Delta, while also serving as a timeless, classic, and comfortable home. Developing a Building Committee With the chapter house the clear focal point for undergraduate life, we were purposeful in forming our building committee. Our members have varied backgrounds with expertise in constructing commercial buildings; real estate and development; financing; and community relations. Two collegiate members on the committee are architecture majors. This is truly a fabulous working group with wide- ranging perspectives and opinions. We are confident this diverse team will develop a first-class facility that mutually benefits active members and our esteemed alumnae. For a full listing of committee members, please see the list to the left. Progress Highlights After evaluating several options, we hired Winstead Wilkinson Architects PLLC and Wells & Wells Construction by unanimous votes. These decisions were made under thorough review as we solicited suggestions locally, approached those with Greek housing experience, and then asked for proposals. We checked references, looked at their work, acquired proposals, conducted interviews, and organized formal presentations. Jay Stuckel is our construction project manager and is volunteering his time in this role. His daughter works for Kappa Delta, and he also volunteers for his fraternity. Jay is an engineer and has worked on several Greek houses across the country. He is a wonderful advocate and provides great knowledge and experience. We received financing quotes from five banks then narrowed to our top two choices. We conducted interviews, spent time as a committee reviewing the information, and accepted the most competitive terms with a local bank. We currently have a loan for 110 Armory that will connect into a construction loan to finance the whole project, subject to review of final building plans. We will provide regular progress updates as we work toward a spring 2017 construction start.
