3 University of MissoUri Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi W hile the Omicron experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the Alpha Phi experience. Built in 1923 and expanded in 1955, it is the home within which we learned the values we share as Alpha Phis, and it is the place where lifelong memories and friendships are made. Just as the women who have lived there, the house has witnessed the march of time. The desire to participate in Greek life has grown on our campus such that our overall membership tops 300 active members. Our home serves as the residence for 75 women, but the Alpha Phi chapter house is also an on-campus haven for 320 collegiate members. Like any home, our house must keep up with the daily demands of its residents. Preserving our LegACy The expansion and improvements of the chapter house in years past successfully addressed the facility needs at that time to accommodate the undergraduate membership. In the early 2000s when updates were needed, Omicron alumnae responded generously—over $500,000 was committed to the project. The chapter house was remodeled, allowing Alpha Phi to remain competitive with other renovated houses at Mizzou. As with any home, the need for continual improvements is critical. The Omicron House Corporation Board works hard to regularly maintain the facility. However, it is clear that we must make a major investment if Alpha Phi is to continue providing a quality living environment and remain competitive on campus in the years ahead. setting ALPhA Phi APArt Recently, other sororities at University of Missouri have responded to their chapters' needs and increased competition within the Greek community by investing or planning to invest in substantially upgrading their facilities, including Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Pi Beta Phi, and Sigma Kappa. In addition, numerous groups on campus have rebuilt their facilities or are planning to, including Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha. The Mizzou Greek system remains strong. In the face of this environmental and financial commitment of other chapters on campus, we cannot let Alpha Pi be left behind.
