Q&A 14 | r e d f c u.o r g How can I obtain a free copy of my credit report and how often? Consumers can get free credit reports in two ways. • You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report any time you are denied credit by contacting the appropriate credit bureau marked on the adverse action letter. • You may also obtain a free copy from each of the three credit reporting agencies once every 12 months; however, we recommend staggering your request by pulling one every four months to give you a look at your file all throughout the year. Ex. January – pull from Equifax, May – pull from Experian and September – pull from TransUnion. Visit www.annualcreditreport.com — the trusted and free website to access your credit file. Counseling Need a "get out of debt" plan or just need someone to read over your credit report with you? Redstone Federal Credit Union's accredited financial counselors can help. Call Redstone at (256) 722-3796 to schedule an appointment with an accredited financial counselor or send your financial questions to aspire@redfcu.org. Do not email any account or personal identification information. What type of information should I look for when I view my credit report? Look for these things when reviewing your report: • Verify all personal information is correct • Confirm all debt contained within the report is valid • Review old active accounts and consider closing them • Review inquiries to assure there is an affiliation with each creditor/company You ask – we answer!
