Once a DG, Always a DG Martha Reilly Poulton '54 Committed to Anchoring a New Future for Epsilon O ftentimes, the fondest memories aren't the big events but the small moments that, when put together, make up the bonds that stay with you throughout your life. For Martha Reilly Poulton '54, these memories culminated in Delta Gamma. "I was a 'town girl' when I started at OSU in the fall of 1953. The DG house at 131 E. 15th was literally an anchor for me and made me feel like I was part of the huge University campus. I am an Epsilon Chapter legacy, so I was very excited to join the chapter that I had heard so much about from my older sister, Clara Reilly Ireland '51. Six years later, our younger sister, Sara Reilly Rau '60, joined and now Sara's granddaughter, Sophie Sugar '15, is a member of the Gettysburg chapter!" It is Martha's hope that she too will leave behind a powerful legacy by securing the future for generations of Epsilon sisters through the Anchoring a New Future for Epsilon campaign. Being surrounded by inspiring sisters such as Dolores Mechling Fuller '52 and Sue Harman Scofield '52, who were juniors when Martha pledged, truly paved the way for Martha in Epsilon Chapter. Martha cherished her collegiate years in Delta Gamma and stayed involved with the chapter after graduating from OSU. "When Linda Mechling Norris '57 invited me to join the Epsilon House Corporation Board, I had no idea I would be spending the next seven years in the most rewarding volunteer service of my lifetime. It was my privilege to serve as chairman of the building committee to restore 131 E. 15th for our centennial celebration," she says. "I then became president of the board. Panhellenic had changed our quotas and we were now a chapter of 200 members. We were the smallest among our peers, housing only 34 women; our choices were limited. We voted to add on to our original house. It was with good fortune that the architect, George Acock, answered yes to my request, and later Jeff Brown of the firm Smith & Hale said yes to guiding us through the very difficult zoning process. And so we are well on our way, and needing all of your support, to leading our beloved Epsilon into the future." As Martha pays it forward through gifts of time and treasure, she is confident that alumnae will be inspired to give back to the place that has given them so much. Because Martha knows an attractive, well-maintained chapter house is a tremendous source of pride for collegians and alumnae alike, supporting the Anchoring a New Future for Epsilon campaign is inherently part of who she is. "When you agreed to be a DG, you agreed to the responsibility that your membership requires. Our collegiate sisters are our leaders who will go on to be important citizens in their communities. As alumnae, it is our duty to be role models for our younger sisters in giving back to Epsilon Chapter and upholding our lifelong commitment to Delta Gamma. To ensure Epsilon's prominent standing on campus, your support is critical." Martha is an interior designer with her own company, Martha Poulton Interiors LLC, in Dublin, Ohio. Her favorite highlights from her career are the numerous show houses supporting the Columbus Museum of Art. When she is not hard at work, Martha enjoys spending time with her three children and seven grandchildren. You can contact Martha at tpoulton@att.net.
