Before a crowd of about 300 in the heart of his beloved alma mater, Cobb outlined his program for the year, which will emphasize education, pa- triotism, philanthropy, Masonic mem- bership, and affiliated connections throughout the world. "May everyone hear us clearly. e conspiracy of Freemasonry is that of of- fering the hand of friendship, morality, and brotherly love. "… So from this day forward, for bet- ter or worse, on this campus of historic connection, capacity, and conscience, we prepare to return to what will be 370 headquarters and fortresses to aid and assist as part of the saving minority in North Carolina. Our tools are friend- ship, morality, and brotherly love." Cobb's line journey began in 2009, when Grand Master Dave Cash ap- pointed him grand steward to fill a va- cated seat. Outgoing 2016 GM Bryant Webster also was appointed a grand steward that year by GM Dan Rice. At the ceremony, Cobb's son, John Marlow Cobb, led the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before Cash presented the apron to Cobb. Installing Officer W. Berry Rigdon presented the hat and gavel, and Dan Rice presented the past grand master's jewel to Webster. Rigdon administered the oath of office to all of the Grand Lodge offi- cers for 2017. Installed were: Deputy Grand Mas- ter Speed Hallman; Senior Grand War- den D. M. "Mack" Sigmon; Junior Grand Warden P. Shaun Bradshaw; Grand Treasurer Lewis R. Ledford; Grand Secretary T. Walton Clapp III; Senior Grand Deacon R. David Wicker Jr.; Junior Grand Deacon Larry B. omp- son Jr.; Grand Marshal Kevan D. Fra- zier; Grand Steward Donald E. Kehler; Grand Steward Robert W. Rideout; Grand Tyler William B. Bruton; Grand Chaplain Mark M. N. Vickers; Grand Historian Steven A. Campbell; Grand Lecturer Hugh L. McLaurin III; Grand Orator David R. Cash, PGM; and Judge Advocate James R. Stevens. In one of his first official acts of of- fice, Cobb closed the day's program by calling immediate past GM Bryant D. Webster to the altar to present him "Let's get to work."
