People vs. Travis John Byrd, Evading Officer with Willful Disregard, Prior Strike Allegation, Prior Prison Term Brief history: A deputy attempted to pull the de- fendant over for an unsafe turn. The defendant had outstanding warrants, and was driving a stolen car. The defendant fled at speeds up to 110mph on Interstate 5, and was weaving in and out of lanes and other cars. The pursuit ended when the defendant crashed and fled the vehicle. He was appre- hended nearby while hiding in some trees. Sentenced to 5years state prison. People vs. Trevor Corey Carney, Possession of Metal Knuckles, Carrying a Dirk or Dagger Violation of Probation Brief history: The defen- dant was contacted by officers in both cases and found to be in possession of illegal weapons that were concealed on his person. Defendant admitted that he was trying to steal the tractor before getting into his car and driving away. The defendant was later apprehended by officers and confessed. People vs. Yvette Renae Hinkle, Assault With A Deadly Weapon Brief history: The defen- dant was in a disagreement with family members when she pulled a knife and tried to stab the victim. The victim was able to grab the defendant and fight her off with the assistance of other family members. Sentenced to 3years for- mal probation, credit for time served, and 80hours community service. People vs. Jessica Joyce Moorehouse, CalFresh As- sistance Program Fraud Brief history: The defen- dant claimed that she and her husband were sepa- rated when she applied for CalFresh aid. The truth was that they were not separated, and her husband was working out of state and sending money to the defendant. An investigation showed that both of them shared an account, and de- fendant had defrauded the program out of $4,531. In running his motel, Patel employed people to provide maid and mainte- nance services. Based on an initial investigation, it was determined that Patel failed to provide accurate information to his workers' compensation insurance carrier. Additionally, Patel used a motel customer's credit card to his advantage without the consent of the customer. Additionally, as a motel owner and operator, Patel was entrusted by the city of Red Bluff to collect from each motel guest Tran- sient Occupancy Tax and to provide such tax to the city each month. Based on an in- vestigation, it appears that Patel significantly under- reported the taxes due to the city. In addition to the listed charges, Patel falsi- fied documents on behalf of two employees so that they could unlawfully obtain welfare benefits. Patel was arrested on a Tehama County warrant in Florida and agreed to be extradited to Tehama County. Patel surrendered his passport by order of the court.
