AlphA Chi omegA 3 1936-1965 "I think I actually spent more time in the DU basement, but I remember painting signs, getting paint on the floor, and working with scrub brushes to clean it off so my mark would not be left behind!" -MARy HARRiSON FORd '57 "The bum room I remember was the one in which we 'entertained' our dates. We had a nice stereo on which we played 33rpm records. Whenever a sister became pinned, she and her pin man bought the house a record to play in the bum room." -LeAH PeTTy MCCONAGHy '63 1965-2016 "The three words I would use to describe the bum room would be friendship, relaxing, and homey. It was a place where we gathered as sisters to share fun times together, it was a place to hang out without the books surrounding you, and it was less formal than the first floor but big enough for a group of us that wouldn't fit in anyone's room. We used the bum room for hanging out, watching TV, and for sleeping. My favorite memory from the bum room was watching the 1976 Winter Olympics with Susan Cochran Wilson '73 nonstop! As an alumna, I had the chance to stay overnight in the bum room again, years later, as a few of my pledge sisters had daughters living in the house. It was just like we never left." -BARBARA SCHuLTz LyNCH '73 2016-Present "I would describe the bum room as useful, homey, and relaxing. It's the perfect place to come home to after a long day of classes. Whether it's a nap on the couch or just sitting down and putting your feet up, the bum room is a great home away from home. I can always count on it to be there for me however I need it. Sisters use the bum room to relax, hang out, catch up on their Netflix shows, or to use as a comfy oasis to study in. My favorite memory from the bum room is watching the Cubs win the World Series. Thirty of us stayed up into the wee hours of the night and huddled around the TV as history was being made. I'll always remember pacing around the bum room singing 'Go Cubs Go' as one of my favorite Alpha Chi memories." -MAGGie ROCHFORd '15 A look at the Bum room from its three eras Sisters from Different Generations Share Their Memories of This Beloved Space t he Alpha Beta Chapter members hosted a reception on November 9 at the chapter house for our newly elected Alpha Chi Omega National president and Alpha Beta sister, Angela Costley Harris '86. Several generations of women came to celebrate Angela and sisterhood. It was a night full of love and laughter with active members meeting women who have been engaged and involved with Alpha Chi Omega for decades. This event helped us all to understand that our sisterhood is for a lifetime and the impact it has on us is far greater than we ever imagined as new members. Our new Alpha Chi Omega CEO, Katie Gaffin, attended. We also hosted several other stakeholders from the campus, including Dean of Students Dr. Katie Sermersheim, an advisor from Purdue's Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life Office, and the Purdue Alumni Association. Congratulations again to our Alpha Beta sister, Angela, who will lead us to new heights! Reception Held for Angela Costley Harris '86 Angela Costley Harris '86 and women who lived in the chapter when she was there, including her pledge mom.
