Lyre Letter A l p h A B e t A C h A p t e r o f A l p h A C h i o m e g A A t p u r d u e u n i v e r s i t y fAll 2016 W e hope this letter finds you well and ready for a wonderful and relaxing holiday season. There are many things to be thankful for this year, including all the alumnae who are making the Alpha Beta Centennial—Celebrating Our Past, Securing Our Future campaign a success. With more than $540,000 pledged, 2016 has been a very prosperous year. In addition, with an extremely successful Convention in June, 2016 has been one for the Alpha Beta history books! We are positive that you, and nearly every other Alpha Beta alumna, are thankful in many ways for your affiliation with Alpha Chi Omega. We are reminded that years ago our alumnae stepped up so that we could enjoy a nice chapter house— no matter which Alpha Beta house you called home. The sorority has likely meant different things to different members, but we can all be appreciative of the common bond between us. If we desire for future young women to have the same wonderful experiences we did, we must in turn pay it forward. An updated and renovated house is imperative for a successful future of Alpha Beta, and we must raise the full $1 million. A house that's less than what the girls need is not an option. Alpha Beta is a top chapter at Purdue and across ACW nationally. They are considered one of the most well-respected chapters on campus with high grades, recruitment success, and a strong presence in activities across campus. The actives today are a great group of young women who absolutely deserve our support. While the house these women call home might not be the Alpha Chi Omega house you called home during your undergraduate experience, it is still a special place. The Alpha Chi Omega house, no matter what the address might have been over the last almost one hundred years, is a place full of love, laughter, and sisterhood that all Alpha Beta alumnae can be proud of. As you reflect during this holiday season on the ways your life has been enhanced by Alpha Beta Chapter of ACW, we hope that you will remember Alpha Beta by considering a pledge toward the housing campaign. Now is the time to give back to the chapter that gave you so much. We are very appreciative of those alumnae who have provided a gift and want to remind you all that those who make cumulative gifts of $2,500 or more during the campaign will be recognized on a permanent plaque in the Alpha Beta chapter house. If you have not yet made a gift, please take this opportunity to do so. Your sisters will thank you! Your year-end financial support is critical in this campaign and will ensure Alpha Beta will be around for many more generations to come. We ask you to use the enclosed pledge form to make a pledge or gift to the Celebrating Our Past, Securing Our Future campaign. For those who wish to make their gift online, secure online giving is available by visiting www.axo. kintera.org/AlphaBetaCampaign. We wish that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season! They were high school sweethearts and their romance lasted for nearly 70 years. James and Joan were married in 1948 right after Joan graduated from Purdue. James graduated in 1946 and continued on to earn his Ph.D. in 1949. Joan was initiated as an Alpha Beta in 1945. She remained active in the alumnae chapter and maintained many friendships with her Alpha Chi sisters after graduating. Joan passed away earlier this summer. James wished for Joan's Alpha Chi legacy to live on. "I decided to contribute to the house project because I know how much she appreciated her time in a much older house," he said. James and Joan's contribution shows the significance and impact Alpha Chi has on so many sisters no matter what stage of life you may be in.
