Take a special tour of the historic Camden House After the tour of the home, try your hand at finding gold the old-fashion way using just a goldpan and small shovel. The home will be open and goldpanning oppor- tunities will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29. The Camden House is in the Tower House Historic District about nine miles past the Whiskeytown Lake Visitor Center off Highway 299 West. A number of free ranger-led programs are being offered this summer through the Labor Day weekend. Abbey will gather on Friday, Aug. 3 to take part in the annual Blessing of the Grapes harvest celebration. The event, at the Abbey's St. The monks of New Clairvaux James Vineyard, 26240 7th St. in Vina, is free and open to the public. Abbot Paul Mark Schwan will conduct the centuries-old European tradition when workers and vine- yards are blessed to ensure a robust harvest and winemaking season. The ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. and lasts about 15 minutes. Vineyard tours, complimentary wine tasting and light appetizers will follow the ceremony. New Clairvaux Vineyard is in Vina, about 20 miles south of Red Bluff on California Highway 99. Event to put focus on Lassen Peak High above the city lights on a moonless night, Lassen Volcanic National Park provides the perfect setting for a Starry, Starry Night extravaganza in the mountain's honor. The Kohm Ya-mah- nee Visitor Center at the South Entrance to the park will undergo a transformation 7-11 p.m. Aug. 18 into a spe- cial venue for star gaz- ing, dancing to live music, sipping bubbly and nibbling on the finest desserts in the area. "Everywhere you look you will see white,' said Kathy Gar- cia, event coordinator. "White linens, white decorations, white desserts, and guests dressed in white will make the starry night even more surreal and mesmerizing."
