WHAT'S INSIDE 3 big events planned for Dec. 10 SEE DEC. 10 PAGE 28 By Joanne Winer The season is starting to look like it might be another busy one for everyone--events that are planned cannot help but be over- lapped since there is so much to do and see. Saturday, December 10th is going to be one of the busiest days so far with three big events being held. The Quartzsite Improvement Assoc. (QIA) will be hosting the 3rd Annual Soup and Chowder Festival. This event gets bigger and better every year. Several restaurants and cooks from all over will be getting out their fa- vorite soup or chowder recipes and the kitchens will smell heav- enly for the judging of the best soup and chowder. There will also be a dessert contest that will be judges. The prizes for both contests are specially made ce- ramic mugs provided by Teresa's Ceramics. There will also be a People's Choice judging by those attending the event. The action starts at 12 noon until 4 p.m. (or whenever they run out of soups and chowders). There will be bands and other entertainment all through the afternoon. He saw a photo of the Halsey-Wil- liams mine and started telling us the story of his experiences just a few days before. Bill Hullinger and his wife Car- ol are snowbirds from Palo Cedro, Good Samaritans rescue dog from mine M Ca. and Jaime Jacobsen and his wife Marie are from Shingletown, Ca. The two couples were out rid- ing their OHVs up on the hill be- hind the same Halsey-Williams mine site, near Q Mountain. They parked their quads and walked over to see down the sluice shaft. About 2/3 of the way down, they saw a small dog that had a leash around its neck and was trapped when the leash wrapped itself around a timber in the shaft. They were astonished to see him and went down to see if they could get him out. He never made a sound, but was so excited to see them!! After getting him out of the shaft, they put him on the quad and started heading down the hill. They passed a jogger who was on SEE RESCUE PAGE 28
