Beta Tau ConnSKtion Beta Tau Chapter House Corporation of Sigma Kappa Sorority at the University of Florida Fall 2016 Chapter House Complete W e did it! Our new house is open, occupied, and being enjoyed by sisters. What a showstopper it is! During recruitment and our grand opening, the feedback was phenomenal. This house was carefully designed and detailed to ensure that we kept the warm, cozy feeling of our prior home while giving the amenities desired today, and the execution exceeded our expectations. For me, the completion of this project signals a major feat accomplished. As a collegian sister, I often heard "if you do x for y timeframe, then you will get a new house." I don't know where that started, or who kept it going, but I do know that we were meeting those goals and I didn't see movement. At some point, I realized we were going to have to step up if we wanted a new house. Gabrielle Ferro Miller '04 said to me, "I'll join the housing board if you do." Quickly, we were leading small renovation projects, and soon thereafter, holding the Treasurer and President positions. Over the next five or so years, as the chapter size grew, the housing board saved enough to make the down payment on our new house. We held stakeholder meetings with sisters and alumnae, spent countless hours perfecting with our design team, and made regular field walkthroughs with our contractor verifying every detail. As anticipated, the outcome was worth it. After eight years on the Beta Tau housing board, I have met my goal—rebuilding the house—and will pass the reins along to the next leaders this spring at the Annual Meeting during Alumnae Weekend. To borrow a phrase used by the Gators – next woman up! If you have interest in giving back to our chapter, now is a great time to get started! Our housing board is high functioning and benefits from diverse backgrounds. Are you in business, accounting, building, design, law and contracts, art, education, PR or HR? Do you plan gatherings like a pro, excel at fundraising, or enjoy mentoring? Likely the answer is yes to at least one of these. If needed, grab a friend and step up! This is a call to action. Our chapter deserves driven leaders like you. Send me an e-mail and I will help you get started!
