TheEmploymentDe- velopment Department, at 1325 Pine St. in Redding, has a Veteran Services de- partment dedicated to as- sisting veterans in gaining employment. In addition to employ- ment services, it offers as- sistance applying for Un- employment Insurance, assistance with veteran benefits and referrals to veteran services. Office hours for the Em- ployment Development Department in Redding are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding hol- idays. Rick Partridge, the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist, assists veterans in gaining em- ployment, case manage- ment, referrals and vet- eran benefits. He can be reached at 225-2151. Michele Fox with the Redding Veterans Re- source Center will be at the Red Bluff VSO office 1:30-4 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15. The VRC assists qualified homeless veterans with transitional housing. This partnership is proving to be very successful in as- sisting Tehama County veterans. Please contact the VRC directly at 223- 3211. Free yearly TRAX bus passes are available for qualified veterans at the VSO offices. We will issue the bus passes at the Red Bluff office and at our sat- ellite offices in Corning and Los Molinos. Please see the VSO office sched- ules below. Dependent College Fee Waivers can be submit- ted to or make an appoint- ment with Beverly Holden at our office after April 15, 2017. Documentation necessary prior to the ap- pointment are the veter- an's DD-214 and VA rating disability letter and IRS or Franchise Tax Board 2016 income verification for the dependent. The College Fee Waiver packages will be reviewed by the VSO on administra- tive Fridays. Please plan ahead on these packages as the VSO will not be able to approve these packages on the same day as the ap- pointment. Thank you for your support. There are many state and federal benefits and programs available to vet- erans and their depen- dents. To find out if you are eligible for any of these benefits, call the Tehama County Veter- ans Service Office at (530) 529-3664. The VSO address is the Bank of America Building, 955 Main St., Ste. C, in Red Bluff. Office appointment hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thurs- day, closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. The Red Bluff office VSO is by ap- pointment only. Corning VSO walk-ins are at the Veterans Memorial Hall 9-11 a.m. the every Tuesday of the month. Los Molinos walk-ins are at the Pub- lic Library 9:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays. DMV forms for "Veteran" designated on your driver's license are available at all VSO of- fices. The Tehama County ID card is available in the Red Bluff VSO office. In- carcerated and Probation Veteran appointments are Thursday mornings. Fri- day's we are closed for ad- ministration and outreach. Cal Fire, Red Bluff Fire, Red Bluff law enforcement agencies, Walmart employ- ees and local Marines will be on hand to help with the collection of new, un- wrapped toys. Local talent will be per- forming, including the Red Bluff High School choir 2-4 p.m. All toys collected in Te- hama County will be dis- tributed in Tehama County. TOYS FOR TOTS Toy drive to Fill the Rig Saturday By Madison McCarty Red Bluff FFA attended its sectional speaking competition Wednesday, Nov. 16, when the advisors took four teams — an of- ficer team, two advanced teams and a novice green- hand team to West Valley High School to compete against other Shasta Sec- tional Chapters. Along with speaking, the officer team and two ad- vanced teams took a coop test. The purpose of this test is to encourage agricul- ture students to become fa- miliar with the agriculture business management cur- riculum. The novice team took the BestInformedGreenhand— BIG—test,whichisaknowl- edge test on the history of the FFA organization. The day ended with the awards ceremony. T.C Durry got second high in- dividual and Griffin Gorm- ley placed fifth high indi- vidual on the BIG test. The contest recognizes outstanding officers within each category. From the officer category Miranda Iverson received outstand- ing president and Madi- son McCarty received out- standing reporter. Red Bluff took home first place in the officer category out of seven teams who com- peted. In the advanced category Melissa Stroing received outstanding Vice President. One of the two advanced teams from Red Bluff took fourth overall. It was a fun-filled day of competitiveness, nervous- ness and laughter. Congrat- ulations to all students who participated in the Shasta section speaking competi- tion.
